Summary

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist leads and drives environmental, health, and safety initiatives at the RNG facility, ensuring all operations comply with applicable laws, regulations, permit conditions, policies, procedures, and community commitments. Support a strong culture of environmental stewardship, compliance, and safety by fostering proactive relationships with plant management, employees, regulators, corporate teams, and community stakeholders.

Primary Duties

• Coordinate and implement daily multi-media environmental compliance programs tailored to RNG operations, including air quality, wastewater, stormwater, and waste management, ensuring adherence to all federal, state, local, and site-specific permit requirements
• Ensure accurate completion and timely submittal of reports required under applicable environmental permits and programs (e.g., Title V, SPCC, SWPPP, NPDES), including monitoring, recordkeeping, data interpretation, and agency communication
• Oversee and manage compliance related to biogas upgrading, methane destruction efficiency, and emissions monitoring—ensuring RNG quality meets pipeline injection specifications
• Support ongoing compliance with pipeline interconnection and injection requirements, including gas quality sampling, odorant use (if applicable), and trace constituent monitoring
• Coordinate stormwater management activities, including inspections, sampling during rain events, and reporting, to ensure protection of nearby land and water resources
• Maintain discharge prevention protocols and proper sampling and handling procedures for wastewater or process water as required under NPDES or local water discharge permits
• Manage and maintain the facility's Environmental Management System (EMS), including all related documentation (e.g., SPCC, FRP, SWPPP, CEMS QA / QC, and site-specific environmental procedures)
• Serve as primary liaison with environmental regulatory agencies for the facility, coordinating inspections, audit responses, permit modifications / renewals, and other compliance-related activities
• Lead and conduct environmental and safety training for site personnel, contractors, and visitors, ensuring awareness of site-specific hazards and safe operating practices in anaerobic digestion and RNG production environments
• Support other RNG project sites within the fleet through occasional travel, providing compliance oversight, guidance, and on-site EHS management as needed
• Perform other duties as required to maintain full environmental and safety compliance across the facility's operations

Working Relationships

The EH&S Specialist reports to the Plant Manager. Interface with contractor and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) personnel for the necessary support and coordination. Maintain a close working relationship with NAES corporate Environmental Support Services groups as well as Client corporate contacts.

Compensation

The initial compensation will range from $83,000 to $101,000

Job Qualifications :

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Work is performed at an RNG facility involving anaerobic digestion, biogas upgrading, and pipeline injection systems. Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Duties may involve entering confined spaces, navigating narrow areas, and working around digesters, gas cleanup equipment, and pressurized systems. Exposure to odors, organic material, biogas (methane), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), hazardous chemicals, fumes, extreme temperatures, and elevated noise is possible. Outdoor work is required in varying weather conditions.

Some tasks require the use of PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, face shields, respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, and fall protection. Respirator fit testing may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply due to flammable gas presence.

The EH&S Specialist works a standard Monday to Friday day shift schedule, ensuring consistent plant operation and support during regular business hours. With flexibility to accommodate site-specific needs or emergency response.

This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or "On call" status may also be required.

Travel is expected approximately 40%-50% of the time, including both planned site visits and ad hoc travel as safety needs arise.

Remote / hybrid role with proximity to regional sites preferred.

Fit for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Follow up as necessary to ensure corrective actions are taken.

Experience

Experience in environmental compliance at an operating facility, with the ability to identify and implement strategies to reduce environmental and safety risks and costs.

Experience with industrial operations, including the interrelationship between anaerobic digestion processes, emissions, waste streams, and compliance requirements across both operations and maintenance.

Experience with federal and state environmental regulations related to air, water, hazardous materials, and waste management, with specialized expertise in at least one area (e.g., Title V, SPCC, SWPPP, or NPDES compliance).
