Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A contract position is available for a Braillist / Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) to provide essential services for students with vision impairments. This opportunity offers full-time (up to 37.5 hours per week) or part-time employment at various school sites throughout Seattle, WA, from as soon as possible, aligned with the district calendar.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Transcribe educational materials such as books, workbooks, exams, tactile maps, and graphs into accessible formats including braille, large print, and electronic media.
  • Collaborate closely with Teachers of Students with Vision Impairments (TSVI) to adapt learning materials to meet individual student needs.
  • Maintain accurate records and properly labeled electronic files for all transcribed materials to ensure accessibility and reuse.
  • Manage time efficiently to deliver materials promptly for student use.
  • Stay updated on relevant computer technologies related to braille production and assistive technology integration.
  • Maintain inventory and order supplies necessary for braille transcription and other job duties.
  • Develop and maintain a resource library for alternative formats of instructional materials.
  • Demonstrate excellent proficiency in English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage.

Qualifications and Experience :

  • Valid Washington State teaching license and certification in visual impairment required.
  • Fingerprints must be on file with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) prior to start.
  • Demonstrated ability or willingness to learn and apply braille literacy and production skills.
  • Commitment to working onsite at designated school campuses within the district.
  • Experience in transcription and alternative media production for visually impaired students preferred.
  • Location : Multiple school sites throughout Seattle, Washington.
