Tool Setter - Day Shift

Overview

• Observes and listens to operating machines including transfer presses or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and determine need for adjustment or repair.
• Prove tooling for successful operation of machines at standard production rate.
• Replaces defective part with new part or repairs or reproduces part from various kinds of metal stock.
• Assembles and operates machine to verify correction of malfunction.
• Operates machines to meet customer’s orders.
• Understand and use statistical process control and capability studies.
• Studies blueprints, sketches drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of blemished workpiece, sequence of operation and setup requirements.
• Measures, marks and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
• Select, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and material on machine such as mills, lathes, etc.
• Able to select speed and feeds, depth of cut on machine tools.
• Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
• Confers with engineers, production personnel, or others to resolve machining assembly or production problems.
• Heat treats tools or parts.
