Summary : Coordinates and performs circulation activities as needed to ensure the circulation department operates smoothly. Schedules staff so there is adequate circulation desk coverage and sufficient staff to perform essential functions behind the scenes. Determines daily priorities and assigns tasks to staff and volunteers to accomplish priorities.
Essential Functions
Circulation Functions
- Register new library patrons and issue library cards
- Facilitate circulation functions in-person and by phone
- Check in and sort books and other media, and empty book drops
- Assist patrons with printing, copying, and scanning documents, and troubleshoot public computer problems
- Manage study room usage
- Help patrons identify and acquire desired material through readers' advisory, holds, and interlibrary loan
- Accurately record cash receipts and other monetary transactions at the circulation desk
- Promote a pleasant, welcoming, and organized atmosphere in the library for staff and patrons
- Enforce the Library's Code of Conduct Policy
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical behavior in all library matters
Coordinator Functions :
Schedule staff so there is adequate coverage during all shiftsDetermine daily priorities and assign tasks to accomplish themExercise sound, independent judgment within general policy guidelinesProvide support to Library Assistants and refer issues to management as neededPropose changes to policies and procedures to management, based on experience and circulation staff feedbackInstruct and assist patrons in the use of online resources, including devices used to access those resources, referring patrons to Adult Services Manager or Library Services Manager as neededAssist management in keeping circulation department staff apprised of announcementsOther Functions
Update and maintain the content on the library website under the direction of the Adult Services Manager and / or Library Services ManagerFacilitate special projects under the direction of the Adult Services Manager, Library Services Manager, and Collection Development ManagerAssist in planning and implementing programs as requested by managementPerform other duties as assignedPhysical Requirements
Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time and intermittentlyAbility to lift 30 pounds, push / pull carts / crates weighing 50 pounds, and shelve materials on high as well as low shelvesDexterity is mandatory as this job requires frequent use of hands and fingersAbility to complete keyboard entryAbility to talk, hear, and seeCompetencies

Associate degree or high school diploma with library circulation experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
Ability to speak a language in addition to English

Must pass Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Fingerprint Based Federal Criminal History Check.
