Intellectual Property Specialist / Paralegal (Software)
We are seeking an Intellectual Property Specialist / Paralegal who will support a software focused company focused on defense and aerospace solutions. In this role you will be responsible for drafting, preparing, filing and management of patents, licensing, trademarks, and copyright registrations applicable to software and digital solutions.

Responsibilities
- Draft software licensing agreements with commercial and government customers.
- Advise on IP strategies for patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets.
- Manage IP portfolios, renewals, and monitoring for infringement.
- Develop policies to ensure compliance with U.S. and international IP laws.
- Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses for software and defense technologies.
- Prepare and filing patent disclosures, compliance documents, and regulatory approvals.
- Track and meet filing deadlines with USPTO, WIPO, and foreign IP offices.
- Collaborate with R&D, engineering, product, and business development teams to align IP strategy with company objectives.
Requirements
Legal degree or certification as a licensed paralegal. Degree or experience in Engineering or Computer Science a plus3+ years of experience researching, drafting, and preparing patent, trademark, and copyright filings related to software and digital technology3+ years of experience managing IP portfolios, tracking deadlines, renewals, and maintain records of all software-related IP assetsExperience conducting due diligence, analyze licensing opportunities, and drafting software IP licensing agreementsExperience advising on software-related infringement, enforcement, and defense strategies.Experience preparing and filing IP-related compliance, regulatory, technology disclosuresTrack filing deadlines to ensure compliance with USPTO, WIPO, and foreign IP office requirementsMaintain accurate records of IP filings, registrations, licensing agreements, and related documentationStrong research, analytical, and written communication abilities with expertise in the software sectorFamiliarity with software development, patent databases, copyright law, and licensing arrangementsAbility to work collaboratively with technical teams, identify IP risks, and offer practical recommendationsCurrent or former professional software industry experienceThis is a hybrid position requiring three days in-office at one of our facilities located in Tampa, FL, Nashville, TN; or McLean, VAAbility to travel up to 20% of the time based on company and customer needsU.S. Security Clearance Requirements. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens and willing and eligible to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance at the Secret level. Existing clearance is preferredBenefits
