Job Summary :

To provide care that is patient and family centered in both inpatient and outpatient environments that exemplifies best practice, fosters relationship based care and maintains the integrity of professional exercise physiologist standards and nursing standards. Practice care guidelines are based on the ANA code of ethics, professional code of conduct and standards from American Society of Exercise Physiologists, and regulatory agency standards by which the exercise physiologists provides care in collaboration with the RN and / or RT.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities :

Will, under the order of or supervision of a physician, perform the duties of non-invasive cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures after completion of training and competency evaluation in each procedure : ECG, rhythm strip, heart monitor hook-up, treadmill stress test, nuclear stress test, stress ECHO tests, and DOB echo and nuclear test

Will record short cardiopulmonary history on patients through the asking of questions relevant to testing or procedure to be performed.

Will maintain departmental statistical and individual productivity records.

Will act as part of the cardiac fast teams for inpatient units

Will use common sense and special medical skills with regard to patient age, diagnosis and physical abilities.

Will edit ECG and stress testing reports as established by policy.

Will directly interact with the patient and physician in receipt, review, scanning and reporting of event recorders.

Will promote an environment that focuses on patient safety.

Will follow Departmental, Hospital and Human Resources Policy & Procedures.

c. Contributes expertise a s a m e mber of a m ultidisciplin a ry team to o ff er co m p rehensive tr e at m ent str a tegies to provide po s iti v e outco m es fo r individual participants a nd for the progra m s off e red.

d. De m onstrat e s the i n ter p e rsonal and o bservation a l skills need e d to effectively identify appropriate psycho s oci a l ad a ption to illn e ss and / or the presence of psychopathology (e.g., depression , anger , etc.).

e. Participates in the collection, analysis and reporting of identified individual patient and program outco m es.

a. Takes steps to i m prove patient satisfa c tion with c are, as s isti n g the RN to develop strategies to i m prove patient / s ig n i f ica n t othe r / f a m ily satis f a c tion.

b. Understands and utilizes conte m porary theories of health behavior change in hel p ing p articipa n ts identi f y le ar ning and lifestyle m odification goals.

c. Assess patient's risk factors that are m odifiable and de m onstrates ability to offe r suppor t an d strategie s t o ai d pat i ent in therapeutic lifestyle changes (TLC).

d. D e m onstrates use of relationship based care m odel.

4. Patien t Safety

a. Supervises exercise session, m onitoring participants for inappropriate response s t o exercise.

b. Effectively applies knowl edg e o f exercis e scien ce to a population with cardiovascular and pul m onary disea s e and other potential conditions.

c. Develops and adjusts individual exe r cise prescription in 6 m inute walk, daily patient response in rehab, a nd physician recom m endations on a regula r basis.

d. Im m ediately reports any new, ch angin g and / o r significan t conditions.

e. Applies safety principles in provision of patient care and follows safety, fire, hazardous waste disposal and e m ergency response plans.

Education and Experience Required :

1. Bachelor's de g ree in health related field o r Exerci s e Science.

2. A minimum of one year of cardiology experience preferred if degree in health related field.

3. Area specific required education m ay be obta i ned upon hire and is to be m aintained, e.g., ACLS, BLS, etc.

Licensure Preferred :

ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C)

ASEP Board Certified Exercise Physiologist (EPC)

Work Shift :

7 : 30am - 6 : 00pm (United States of America)
