Responsibilities
- Serve in the Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM) in the Department of Primary Care and Clinical Medicine as full-time Clinical Faculty, reporting to the Chair of Primary Care and Clinical Medicine.
- Develop opportunities for community outreach for medical students, including health fairs, clinical opportunities (pop-up clinics, mobile clinics, free clinics), fun runs, vaccination events, food drives, and related activities. Organize these events and provide clinical supervision when required.
- Lead efforts to establish interprofessional education opportunities in collaboration with SHSU-COM Curricular Administrative Team and other SHSU colleges.
- Assist in developing clinical content for systems courses and clerkships; participate in scholarship and research in the department; provide quality patient care; and foster collaboration and interdisciplinary learning.
- Teach across curricula, including systems courses, physical exam course, case-based learning sessions, clinical clerkships, procedural skills training, OSCEs, and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine hands-on training where appropriate.
- Contribute to preclinical and clinical education and evaluate curriculum and student performance using various learning and assessment methods.
- Where appropriate, provide patient care in the SHSU faculty practice in the SHSU Physicians clinic. Opportunities may exist for part-time clinical contracts externally or full / part-time faculty contracts for clinicians who are no longer practicing medicine.
Qualifications
DO or MD degree from an osteopathic or allopathic medical school with successful residency training; current AOA or ABMS board certification or board eligibility; current unrestricted license to practice in Texas (or eligibility to obtain).Preference for primary care physicians with training / experience in osteopathic manipulative medicine; candidates with other specialties will also be considered. If not licensed in Texas at start, the position will commence once an unrestricted Texas medical license is obtained.Experience and Skills
Clinical skills and well-developed communication abilities. Background in medical education is preferred, with experience in preclinical and clinical teaching. Teaching in osteopathic manipulative medicine is preferred but not required. Academic rank and salary depend on experience and training.Ability to communicate and work with faculty, medical students, clerkship coordinators, hospital administrators, physician preceptors, and college administration. Strong written and verbal communication. Proficiency with technology (Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) and video conferencing (Zoom or Teams). Familiarity with Learning Management Systems and reporting is preferred. Willingness to take on other duties as assigned.Additional Details
