Position Overview

  • Shift : Day, mix of 2x8 (06 : 30 – 15 : 00) & 2x12 (10 : 30 – 23 : 00) | 4 shifts per week | Call required
  • Location : Ohio State's Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital, 452 W 10th Ave, Columbus, OH 43210
  • Patient Age Groups : Adults, Geriatrics
  • Rooms / Beds : 7 CVOR rooms | 7 beds

    • Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience :

    • Minimum 5 years OR experience

  • Must have at least 2 years dedicated cardiac & vascular scrub experience (hard stop)
  • Minimum 1 year CVOR experience in a Level I Trauma Center
  • Certifications :

    • Required : BLS

  • Preferred : ACLS
  • Licensure : Active OH or Compact RN license (must be in hand at submission)
  • Charting : Epic
  • Travel Experience : Not required
  • Scrub Experience : Required
  • References : 2 professional required (1 manager / director / leadership, 1 charge RN acceptable)
  • Education : Must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
  • Local Rule : Locals accepted at same rate
  • Rehire Policy : Former employees eligible if separated >

    • 6 months; current OSU employees ineligible

    Cardiovascular / Cardiac Surgery

  • CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft)
  • Mitral valve replacement
  • MAZE procedure
  • TAVR (Transaortic Valve Replacement)
  • LVAD / RVAD (Ventricular Assist Device)
  • Aortic aneurysm repair, atrial septal defect repair, pericardial window
  • Femoral cannulation, intra-aortic balloon pump
  • Cardiomyoplasty, laparoscopic cardiac surgery

    • Vascular Surgery

  • Carotid endarterectomy, carotid stenting, carotid angioplasty
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), TEVAR
  • Arteriovenous fistula repair, fem-pop bypass, renal artery bypass
  • Vein stripping, atherectomy, fistulograms, angiograms, aortograms

    • Thoracic Surgery

  • Thoracotomy, VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery), mediastinoscopy
  • Lobe resection

    • General OR Skills

  • Appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair (as needed for CVOR crossover)
  • Trauma Level I response, emergency code response
  • Specimen handling / labeling, aseptic technique
  • Blood / blood product administration, wound management
  • Radiation & laser safety, universal time-out protocol

    • Staffing / Scheduling

  • Ratios : 1 : 1 for all shifts (Days, Nights, Weekends)
  • Float : Not required outside CVOR
  • Call : Yes, required | $9 / hr + 1.3x callback pay
  • Weekend Coverage : Per unit needs
  • Pre-Approved Time Off : 1 request allowed
  • Orientation : 24 hours (non-billable)

  • Setting : Academic Medical Center, Level I Trauma
  • Interdisciplinary Support : Cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, thoracic surgery teams
  • Common Diagnoses / Procedures : CABG, valve repairs, AAA, dissections, amputations, first ribs, ECMO, TVAR, EVAR, TAVR, radiofrequency ablations, vascular fistulas
