ENA offers a flexible hybrid work schedule that allows employees the opportunity to work from the office two days a week and at home three days a week. We are headquartered in Schaumburg, Illinois.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Communications Specialist works closely with the Communications and Media Relations Manager, Director of Communications and ENA stakeholders to raise awareness about the emergency nursing specialty, ENA and the association’s mission. The Communications Specialist will contribute to all ENA print, digital, internal and external content through their writing, editing and communications skills and knowledge. They will partner with key stakeholders across the organization to support a consistent and cohesive approach to the association’s voice, tone and role as a thought leader in health care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • With guidance from the Communications and Media Relations Manager, plans, develops and creates varied content that aligns with ENA’s general communications strategy in a manner that support ENA’s strategic plan and organizational goals of increased awareness about the association and emergency nursing as a whole.
  • Collaborates with other ENA departments on the development and execution of projects and campaigns that feature ENA as a thought leader and highlights ENA products, membership initiatives, events and other association programs and resources.
  • Supports media relations activities, such as : press release writing; responding to media inquiries; researching information for media requests; creating talking points for ENA spokespersons; pitching ENA-related stories to traditional and industry media outlets; and developing and maintaining database of media contacts.
  • Demonstrates excellent writing and editing for external and internal communications and publications, including, but not limited to : ENA Connection magazine, the association’s annual report, member emails and other materials as needed.
  • Participates in the creation of written scripts, multimedia strategy and other production aspects for ENA events such as ENA Leadership Conference, Day on the Hill and ENA’s annual conference.
  • Works as part of an interdepartmental team to ensure consistent messaging, branding and style throughout all forms of association communications.
  • Collaborates on a variety of tasks with ENA’s leadership teams, board of directors and other leaders on communications initiatives and tasks.
  • Contributes to the workplace culture that is consistent with the association’s culture statement and emphasizes the mission, vision and values of the organization.
  • Displays a high level of accountability, taking responsibility for individual actions and the impact on the organization. Views oneself as a reflection of the organization by following through on commitments and accepting ownership.
  • Performs additional related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required :

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of public relations or communications experience; journalism or PR agency a plus
  • Background in multimedia content development and ability to write for a variety of platforms strongly considered
  • Experience with media relations, as well as developing social media content for professional organizations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to communicate concise, relevant and powerful messages
  • Desired :

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products, Zoom, Teams and other platforms.
  • COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

    This position is an exempt / salaried position. The targeted salary range is $65k-$70k annually. Compensation is determined based on a range of factors, including experience, education, certifications or specialized training, skill level and operational needs.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment. Requires ability to communicate orally and in writing in an exchange of information; collect, compile and prepare work documents; set up and maintain work files. Use of the computer, with repetitive motion, is approximately 85%.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    This position requires occasional travel and may require availability for extended hours plus occasional non-traditional hours to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at association sponsored events and meetings.
