Job Summary
The Wine Steward is responsible for enhancing the dining experience by providing expert wine service to members and guests. This role involves curating and presenting the wine list, offering recommendations, and ensuring that wine service adheres to the highest standards of quality and professionalism. The Wine Steward plays a key role in delivering exceptional service, contributing to member and guest satisfaction, and supporting overall dining operations.
Reporting Structure
- Reports to the F&B / Beverage Director or Banquet / Restaurant Manager
Day to Day
Provide expert wine recommendations and service to members and guests, ensuring a high standard of quality and professionalism.Maintain an extensive knowledge of the wine list, including wine characteristics, pairings, and daily features or specials.Ensure that wines are stored, served, and presented according to industry standards and club guidelines in the correct glass for the chosen varietalGreet members and guests with a warm and knowledgeable approach, creating an inviting atmosphere and enhancing their dining experience.Assist members and guests with selecting wines that match their preferences and complement their meals.Handle any wine-related complaints or issues with prompt and effective service recovery.Maintain and organize the wine inventory, ensuring proper storage and rotation of stock.Complete daily assignments and side work, including cleaning and stocking wine-related equipment and supplies.Assist with setting up and breaking down wine service areas for events and special functions as needed.Additional Duties
Due to the dynamic nature of the club, employees are expected to assist others as needed and take on additional tasks as assigned by management.Follow all company, club, and department policies, procedures, and instructions.Maintain a high level of professionalism and a commitment to excellence in interactions with members, colleagues, and staff.Follow safe working practices, ensuring compliance with safety guidelines and encouraging others to do the same.Take the initiative in personal and professional growth and maintain any required certifications relevant to your role.Address and resolve challenges using available resources, working with regional and corporate teams to support club operations.Attend daily briefings and actively engage in required activities to stay informed and contribute to the team's success.Wear a clean, neat uniform that meets club standards.About You
Required
Sommelier certification or coursework in wine knowledge.Preferred
High school diploma or equivalent.A minimum of 2 years of experience in a Food and Beverage role, with specific experience or training in wine service.Completion of Invited's F&B Service Training program.Excellent communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and effectively.Ability to follow instructions and communicate well with team members.Physical Requirements
Must be able to stand, walk, and perform physical activities for extended periods.Ability to work in varying temperatures and environments, with potential exposure to dust, fumes, or gases.Capable of climbing ladders, squatting, kneeling, reaching, grasping, twisting, bending, and folding / unfolding as required.Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 100 lbs. occasionally.Effective communication skills, including talking and hearing, with sufficient visual acuity.Primary Tools / Equipment
