Planning Analyst
Position Summary
The Planning Analyst assists the department to help the Medical Center operators in maximizing operations, improving processes, increasing revenues and reducing cost; coordinates financial and statistical reporting; supports annual budget process; assists with the preparation of Medicare / NJ State Reporting and Audits; and acts as a financial representative at meetings, as necessary.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in the development of the annual statistical, revenue, salary, supply and expense budgets for the Medical Center. Works closely with department operators throughout the process.
- Reviews budget for accuracy and follows up with Department Operators for clarification of data. Prepares analyses in support of major expense categories / general ledger accounts for review. Prepares statistics, expense and revenue monthly spreads for the budget.
- Assists in the preparation of month end financial package including statistical and expense variance analyses. Works in concert with Financial Accounting Team.
- Assists in completion and publication of monthly financial package including preparation of monthly statistical reports, variance analyses and other related worksheets.
- Prepares / analyzes and disseminates monthly financial / statistical dashboards / reports.
- Supporting the hospital’s day to day data / statistical requirements.
- Prepares and monitors benchmarking data from both internal and external sources.
- Assists in the preparation and accuracy of Third Party reimbursement reports, including but not limited to; Medicare / Medicaid cost report, NJ Acute Care Hospital cost report, NJ DSH Examination, Wage Index and Occupational Mix Survey, Tricare CAP / DME Reimbursement Request, NJHA Fast Data, NJ Dept of Health Apollo Reporting.
- Reviews and validates government agency published data files related to Medical Center reimbursement including but not limited to, occupational and wage index files, state subsidy allocations (Charity Care, DSH, County Option, QIP) cost to charge ratio calculations and Medicare / Medicaid rate components / factor updates.
- Assists in mandatory monthly, quarterly and yearly survey filings to outside agencies. Responds to external inquiries for additional information.
- Supports government payer audits by researching and providing documentation, as requested.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or related field preferred OR equivalent work experience.Strong analytical / communication skills are required, including but not limited to, spreadsheet preparation and analysis, presentation development / delivery, and the development of internal / external correspondenceMust be computer literate and possess the skill set to learn / utilize new software and to identify / implement improved functionality of existing softwarePossess strong decision making skills within the scope of the position with attention to detail.Must be able to successfully perform multiple functions, be readily available to adapt to shifting priorities, and maintain a high level of productivity to achieve departmental goals.Cost report preparation experience desired and / or willingness to learn.Salary Range : $50,000 - $80,000 annually (Based on experience)
