The Senior Underwriter for Construction will play a key role in driving the financial performance of construction-related insurance programs across multiple regions. This position involves collaborating with Construction Specialists, Industry Practice Leaders, and business units to underwrite new and renewal opportunities, achieve financial targets, and expand product offerings through cross-selling initiatives. The role also requires building strong relationships with agents and brokers, negotiating coverage and pricing, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
This position will require travel approximately 15%-20% of the time within North America.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the financial performance of construction-related insurance programs specific to project and practice programs across multiple regions.
- Achieve financial targets, including rate, growth, profit, retention, and new business acquisition.
- Responsible for risk selection, underwriting, production, pricing, and sales of commercial construction products for both new and existing customers.
- Underwrite new and renewal construction opportunities in collaboration with Construction Specialists and Industry Practice Leaders.
- Support cross-selling initiatives to expand product offerings within Commercial Insurance.
- Meet with new and renewal customers and agents / brokers to negotiate coverage, price, financial terms, and service delivery.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with agents / brokers to achieve financial goals for assigned territories.
- Collaborate with business units and industry practices on cross-selling, training, and marketing efforts.
- Experience in casualty underwriting is required, with expertise in construction, energy, or related fields involving contracting or installation exposures. Focus areas include GL-driven wraps, Project Specific, Owner’s Interest, and annual Practice Programs.
- Strong sales and marketing skills are essential, with the ability to position accounts and close deals effectively.
- Proven success in marketing, producer management, new business development, and negotiating at all levels with both internal and external partners is expected.
- Teamwork, communication, and negotiation skills are critical for success in this role.
- High degree of proficiency in the underwriting process and the ability to collaborate effectively with an Underwriting Associate are required.
- Exemplary interpersonal skills to interact effectively with customers and coworkers at all levels are necessary.
- Knowledge and expertise in technical issues, compliance, coverage, products, and pricing strategies are expected.
- Ability to be creative and adaptable in a changing business environment.
