Were hiring for a Payroll Lead! This is a position that ensures accurate, compliant, and timely payroll operations across Southwinds multi-state footprint. Acting as a bridge between the payroll team and the Payroll & Benefits Manager, this role provides leadership in day-to-day payroll activities, resolves escalated issues, and drives process improvements. The Payroll Lead mentors payroll specialists, supports acquisitions, and partners with cross-functional leaders to deliver a reliable teammate experience

Salary : $60,000 - $65,000
What you'll do :
Payroll Operations & Compliance
- Oversee weekly payroll processing across multiple states and brands, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
- Review complex payroll cases and approve corrections or adjustments before submission.
- Support payroll tax compliance, garnishment processing, and record maintenance.
- Partner with the Payroll & Benefits Manager to monitor regulatory changes and implement compliance updates.
Team Leadership & Support
Provide day-to-day guidance and coaching to payroll specialists, ensuring consistency in processes and teammate support.Act as first point of escalation for payroll-related questions from specialists, GMs, or operators.Assist with training and development of new payroll team members.Collaborate with the Manager on workload distribution and performance feedback.System Oversight & Process Improvement
Serve as a subject matter expert in payroll systems (Paylocity preferred), assisting with troubleshooting and efficiency improvements.Recommend and implement enhancements to payroll workflows for scalability and teammate experience.Support integrations and system updates related to acquisitions or platform upgrades.Cross-Functional Collaboration & Support
Partner with HR, Benefits, and Finance teams to align payroll processes with business needs.Assist with onboarding of new teammates by ensuring accurate payroll setup.Support annual activities such as Open Enrollment and year-end tax reporting.What you'll bring :
3+ years of payroll experience, including multi-state and multi-entity processing.Strong knowledge of payroll laws, wage and hour compliance, and tax regulations.Experience with multiple payroll cycles in high-volume environments.Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, or lead team members.Proficiency in payroll systems (Paylocity strongly preferred).Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.What were looking for :
