UPMC Hamot is hiring a Patient Care Technician to join the PACU!

This position is full-time, Monday- Friday 7 : 00am - 3 : 30pm, with no weekends or holidays.

One year of previous patient care experience required.

Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience.

Overview : This position will work in the Surgical Family Waiting area checking patients and families in for their procedure, place patients in consult rooms for the physician, and work in PREOP / PACU as needed to care for patients after receiving surgery.

Responsibilities

Assist with patient care, procedures, and daily living activities. Support physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.

Report patient status changes and provide feedback to RNs. Perform core nursing assistant duties : ADLs, vital signs, I&O, blood glucose, weights, specimen collection, Foley care.

Competent in at least four advanced tasks : phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressings, Foley / IV catheter removal, bladder scan, straight catheter, point-of-care testing.

Report equipment malfunctions and maintain communication with departments. Respond to call lights, phones, pass meal trays, and transport patients.

Accept feedback, identify learning needs, and seek help with prioritization. Educate patients / families under RN direction; manage restraints per protocol.

Communicate clearly with healthcare team; support workplace safety and cultural sensitivity. Maintain professional relationships and demonstrate accountability and motivation.

Adhere to all patient care and hospital policies, including safety protocols. Support departmental changes, projects, and quality initiatives.

Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed. Maintain competency in advanced skills as required by department needs.

High school diploma or GED required.

Must meet one of the following experience / education criteria :

1 year of general healthcare experience

6 months as a UPMC Nursing Assistant / CNA with PCT competency within 120 days

Enrollment in PT / OT / PA or related healthcare program with at least one clinical rotation completed

Bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.

Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class. Successful completion of eRecord training.

EMT or Paramedic certification preferred, or current enrollment in an EMT / Paramedic program.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances :

Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

ACLS preferred
