Land Development Infrastructure Inspector
Under general direction, performs inspection of land development infrastructure, including water, sanitary sewer, drainage, and paving construction improvements.
Examples of duties include : inspecting all aspects of land development infrastructure construction and reconstruction by contractors, developers, and public utility companies; coordinating with contractors on methods, sequence, and public safety during construction; insuring construction work is performed in accordance with applicable plans, standards, and specifications; performing related survey work to establish and verify lines and grades, records location of all water, sanitary, and storm sewer lines; coordinating testing of water and sanitary sewer lines and assisting with testing for concrete pavement and structures; insuring all water and sewer mains are tested properly before being accepted by the town; maintaining as built plans; providing technical advice, writing reports, summaries, and recommendations to immediate supervisor and others, as directed; reviewing plans and specifications of work assignments with the immediate supervisor; assisting with the review and processing of right-of-way and small cell site permits; assisting with other special projects and tasks, as directed; adhering to personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures; informing immediate supervisor of potential hazards, problem areas, and all work activities; and informing immediate supervisor of all inquiries.
Basic qualifications include a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) and a valid Texas driver's license with a driving record in compliance with town policy. Work experience must include two or more years of development infrastructure inspection and construction work experience to include street / alley paving, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer lines, earth work, concrete, job safety, and testing procedures.
Desired qualifications include extensive working knowledge of public improvements construction to include street / alley paving, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer lines, earth work, concrete, job safety, and testing procedures; excellent mathematical skills in calculating grades, volumes, and areas; good leadership, organizational, and communicative skills; bilingual communicative skills are preferred; ability to operate a survey level; ability to work well under pressure and stress; handle multiple tasks; prioritize and organize work assignments; ability to maintain an effective and pleasant working relationship with employees, contractors, and the general public; ability to work extensive hours, as needed; ability to talk, read, see, walk, hear, and follow oral and written directives; good hand / foot / eye coordination to operate equipment and repair equipment and vehicles; ability to perform strenuous physical activities to include exerting up to 100 lbs. of pressure, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying heavy supplies and inspection and construction equipment several times a day; ability to shovel, crawl, bend, kneel, dig holes for several hours per day, and climb on and off equipment; ability to work indoors; underground; outdoors; in confined spaces; in pipes; culverts; manholes; and trenches; on level, slippery, sloping, unstable, and muddy terrain; and under constantly noisy conditions; and work in adverse environmental conditions to include inclement weather and hazardous conditions including mechanical, electrical, fume odor, dust / mist, chemical, toxic waste hazards, and other solid waste substances and exposure to insects. All employees who have access to health information whose confidentiality is protected by the HIPAA Privacy Rule must have an understanding and knowledge of the Privacy Rule that corresponds to their job responsibilities. Employees who violate the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule will be subject to discipline, up to and including termination.
