Patient Financial Counselor

The Patient Financial Counselor supports patients by guiding them through the financial assistance process, explaining their financial responsibilities, and helping them identify solutions to manage balances. Serving as a liaison between patients and customer service, this role ensures compassionate, informed communication through in-person, phone, and written interactions.

Key Responsibilities :

Pre-screen uninsured and underinsured patients to identify financial assistance opportunities.

Assist patients in completing financial assistance and Medicaid applications, ensuring all documentation is accurate and complete.

Provide personalized cost estimates and educate patients on insurance coverage, payment options, and billing statements.

Review and evaluate patients’ eligibility for financial aid according to policy and regulatory guidelines.

Initiate and manage payment plans, process payments, and maintain accurate records of financial discussions and payer communications.

Partner with internal teams, social workers, and third-party vendors to maximize funding opportunities.

Stay informed on insurance and collection regulations impacting patient billing and financial assistance.

Complete administrative duties, including filing, documentation, and report preparation.

Qualifications :

High School Diploma required; advanced education preferred.

Prior experience in customer service, healthcare billing, or financial counseling preferred.

Working knowledge of insurance policies , government programs , and claim forms (UB04, CMS1500, 837i / 837p) .

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort with technology systems.

Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Physical & Work Conditions :

Frequent computer use and patient interaction (in person and digitally).

Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

Flexibility to work additional shifts or overtime as needed.
