Overview
Position : Broadband Specialist IV, Maintenance. Company : Mediacom Communications.
Position available in Mediacom Communications' field operations. This role focuses on maintaining the HFC plant from node to tap, performing routine maintenance and repairs of the CATV distribution and HSD systems, and assisting with turn-ons for new distribution systems. Maintenance and troubleshooting of the trunk system due to equipment or power issues are included.
Position Responsibilities
- Conduct system tests such as signal / noise, signal / hum, summation sweep, chart recording, return loss bridge; perform monthly, semi-annual, and annual tests; apply RF knowledge and troubleshoot; sweep and balance the HFC plant.
- Set trunk levels, install and replace trunk amplifiers, and calculate signal level losses in cable and equipment for trunk and distribution lines.
- Install electronics and make power connections; maintain power supplies.
- Properly use, store, and maintain all test equipment used in the system.
- Troubleshoot and repair coaxial and fiber distribution systems; assume responsibility for maintenance activities.
- Prepare project estimates and provide bill of materials.
- Work with connectors, fasteners, wire, and hand tools; splice coax and fiber.
- May perform duties of Broadband Specialist I-V, Technical Operations as needed.
- Climb poles and structures using proper safety equipment; lift and carry up to 100 lbs; work in confined spaces.
- Perform cleanup, salvage materials, and provide general assistance to other team members; participate in on-call duties as required.
- Perform installations and changes of service in accordance with applicable codes, guidelines, company procedures, and safe work practices to ensure a positive customer experience.
Position Requirements
High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred.Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.Minimum 6 months' experience as Broadband Specialist III or 5+ years' equivalent cable technician experience; 18 months tenure as a Mediacom BBS III or equivalent.Knowledge of all Broadband Specialist I-III responsibilities, basic commercial installs, business phone and service calls, and Digital Home.Knowledge of HFC plant, installations and service calls; familiarity with Commercial Fiber PRI and Managed Voice installation and troubleshooting.Advanced mechanical skills for splicing; ability to interact with customers and coworkers.Ability to work in high or tight spaces, in all weather conditions, and at various heights; ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.Ability to troubleshoot customer premise equipment and cable issues.Physical Requirements
Strenuous – Frequent handling of heavy objects (approximately 50-100 lbs) and heavy hand tools.Benefits
