Description :
Reporting to the IR Section Leader, the Radiology Staff Nurse will provide quality nursing care to both inpatients and outpatients.
This role includes care for pediatric, adult, elderly, acutely and chronically ill patients.
The Radiology Nurse must be prepared to handle all unexpected emergencies during any radiological procedure.
The nurse ensures patient privacy, dignity, and safety.
The position requires compliance with policies and procedures to optimize patient care utilizing the nursing process.
This role prioritizes patient needs and functions as the patient advocate.
The nurse assesses the biological, psychological, sociological, and cultural needs of the patient and the family.
Monitoring of patient condition, including vital sign monitoring and recognition of electrocardiogram changes, is essential.
The nurse initiates appropriate nursing interventions as necessary.
Recognizing, documenting, and assisting in the treatment of contrast reactions is also part of the role.
The nurse intervenes in emergency situations as they arise.
Additionally, the nurse assists radiologists with special procedures and treatments that require professional nursing skills.
Administering conscious sedation and appropriately monitoring patients is a key responsibility.
Assessing the need for and administering other medications as necessary is also required.
Providing continuity of care for critically ill patients is a core function of the position.
Demonstrating skill in using special equipment such as monitors and infusion pumps is necessary.
Documentation of patient status and nursing interventions is required.
The nurse must comply with patient identification protocol.
Demonstrating the ability to prioritize nursing responsibilities within the department is essential.
Health teaching and procedural information will be provided to patients and families.
