Description\n\nIR Sedation Nurse\n\nThe IR Sedation Nurse is responsible for the assessment of patients including the\n\ndevelopment, evaluation, and modification of the plan of care for patients receiving\n\nmoderate sedation for surgical procedures.\n\nThe Registered Nurse is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and\n\naccountability for the comfort and safety of patients for a designated time frame.\n\nPrincipal Duties And Responsibilities\n\nPerforms various activities necessary for the preparation of the patient and the\n\nprocedure room for the radiology procedures in compliance with policies and\n\nprocedures and state and federal regulations.\n\nConducts all necessary preparations for the patient procedure room.\n\nStock the Nursing Cart for the days procedures with supplies to include EKG leads and\n\noxygen\n\nPrint the daily schedule and pre-op call template.\n\nNarcotic count in the morning, move to the procedure room for the day's procedures.\n\nDocument all used narcotics during the day. Return all unused items to the lock box.\n\nEnd of day narcotic count.\n\nChecks in the first patient of the day. Explains procedure to the patient, answers any\n\nquestions and addresses patient concerns.\n\nAdminister medication, pre, intra and post-op\n\nMonitor patient vitals, intra-op including bp, ekg rhythm, oxygen saturation and ensure\n\nthere are no airway obstructions\n\nScan items used in the procedure room into the inventory management system.\n\nAdminister sedation medication through IV access\n\nSedation transfer from the procedure room to the holding area. Hook the patient up to\n\nthe monitor and take the first set of vitals. Sign off on transfer document from self to the\n\nMedical Assistant.\n\nComplies with HIPPA policies and standards with regards to patient confidentiality.\n\nOversee the crash cart. Perform AED checks and expired medication log daily.\n\nCheck inventory monthly, remove and restock if outdated.\n\nTrain new Nurses and Medical Assistants as needed.\n\nMake Post-op call to the patient and dictate in patients chart.
