UXO Safety Officer

Overview

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented UXO Safety Officer (UXOSO) for employment in Kuwait City. Qualified candidates must be available to start onboarding for this assignment on November 3, 2025. Deployment to Kuwait will happen shortly after that. This will require completion of pre-hire support activities (drug screen, background check, etc) by mid-October 2025.

In accordance with Department of Defense Explosives Safety Board Technical Paper 18 (DDESB TP-18), a UXOSO must be able to meet the criteria for and perform the functions of a UXO-TIII and implement explosives and health and safety plans and programs in accordance with applicable DoD, federal, state, and local requirements. The UXOSO must verify compliance with site-specific explosives safety requirements and manage MEC-related activities with appropriate mitigating measures.

Project context includes ensuring safety and compliance for MEC-related operations, heavy equipment use, and open detonation controls. Safety status determinations for discovered MEC are final when performed by the SUXOS.

Responsibilities

• Enforce personnel limits and explosives safety quantity distance (ESQD) arcs for explosive-related operations.
• Conduct, document, and report daily safety inspections and verify corrective actions are implemented.
• Apply engineering controls to reduce open detonation minimum separation distances as required.
• Ensure heavy equipment operations are conducted in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.
• Make final safety status determinations of discovered MEC with the SUXOS.
