Position Overview
TheSenior Construction Estimatoris the primary lead for the estimating department for Flynn Construction. Creating bids, traveling, and working with clients and other departments (project management, field superintendents) are the basic responsibilities of this position.
Responsibilities
- Determines duration of each project, dollar value (with associated fees), and reviews the overall budget prior to submission
- Process, interpret and understand project blueprints, conceptual drawings, maps, bidding specifications, scope descriptions, and related documents / subcontractor trades
- Lead the estimating department in assigning projects to estimator and procurement
- Discuss and review trade lists and subcontractor coverage at department meetings
- Setup all project files electronically and track progress of all coverage, takeoffs, etc. (submit takeoffs as required)
- Obtain up to date and accurate drawings
- Operate a computerized bidding system with accuracy and speed
- Address the needs of each client (bid requests, estimates and proposals) in a prompt, professional and courteous manner
- Prepares trade lists and goals for each project
- Lead and assist with project and Review trade lists with estimators
- Prepare scope sheets for each trade and material take offs, as needed
- Prepare and review estimates, proposals, bid tabs for entry, bid summary sheets and accompanying cost information before final review
- Interact with the client, owner, and / or landlord during each project.
- Travel to and conducts site visits and surveys while meeting with subcontractors to answer any questions
- Assist with the subcontractor review and approval process
- Prepare and review scope sheets, RFIs and bid proposals with the estimating team
- Review, adjust, and present all estimates to the Director of Construction during final review process
- Compile and price all labor and material data from management
- Completes budget and conceptual estimates
- Prepare and assist estimators for turnover meetings with project management
- Work with the Director of Construction to review, assist and assign the estimating departments goals and objectives
Preferred Qualifications
Required : 5 to 8 years with bidding projects within the commercial construction industryPreferred : Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management. Can be supplemented with experienceAdvanced computer skillsTravel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected. This position must be willing and able to travel to various trade shows. Percentage of Travel is estimated at about 10-30% but can vary based on projects and functions.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelors degree or related in industry estimating experience.
