Surgical Technician - Open Heart Surgery

Virtus Healthcare Staffing is searching for a highly skilled and dedicated Surgical Technician with a specialty in Open Heart Surgery to join our partner, a leading medical center in Oregon City, OR. This is a crucial role for a professional who is committed to providing best-in-class care and ensuring the safe and efficient performance of complex cardiac procedures.

Position Overview

As a Surgical Technician, you are a vital member of the operating room team, performing in the scrub role during surgical procedures and coordinating other activities with OR professionals. You will participate in creating a high-performance culture based on collaboration and a commitment to patient-focused care. This role requires strong dexterity, effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to exercise good judgment in a demanding environment.

Key Responsibilities

Surgical Support : Prepare the surgical suite with all necessary drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment, and supplies. You will assist with preparing, transporting, positioning, and draping patients, and will be responsible for passing instruments to the physician and anticipating the needs of the team during the procedure.

Safety and Compliance : Continually account for the number and location of instruments and supplies to ensure patient safety. You will apply the principles of aseptic technique, evaluate sterile supplies, and maintain proper sterile technique at all times.

Operational Duties : Facilitate efficient room turnovers by assisting with light housekeeping duties, procuring equipment and supplies, and restocking as needed. You will also participate in the reprocessing of instruments.

Collaboration and Communication : Promote professional conduct and collaboration with the entire healthcare team. You will be a key contributor to maintaining continuity of care through effective communication with patients, families, and staff.

Qualifications & Experience

Education : Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology.

Licenses and Certifications :

Basic Life Support (BLS) is required at hire.

A Surgical Technologist Certificate is required at hire.

Experience :

A minimum of two to five years of scrubbing experience in all surgical procedures in an inpatient or ambulatory OR setting is preferred.

Additional Requirements :

Knowledge of the sterile core area, sterile technique, and operating room procedures and equipment is essential.

Ability to follow instructions and exercise good judgment and discipline.
