Job Overview

We are seeking a Project Engineer in our Traffic and Transportation group to help drive the next generation of traffic and transportation solutions throughout Connecticut. The successful candidate will support traffic engineering design and planning projects for AKRF's Traffic and Transportation group located in Hamden, CT.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop traffic and transportation planning and engineering solutions for various transportation projects.
  • Conduct comprehensive traffic impact studies addressing multi-modal transportation issues.
  • Perform traffic modeling to simulate and analyze traffic flow and patterns.
  • Design traffic improvement plans to enhance roadway safety and efficiency.
  • Design and program traffic signals including Intelligent Transportation Systems, EVP, TSP, and ATCS.
  • Design roadways and intersections to meet safety standards and accommodate traffic flow.
  • Prepare and review technical memoranda and reports.
  • Participate in meetings with clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Deliver analysis findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
  • Manage small to mid-size projects or serve as a task leader.
  • Share knowledge and develop solutions with team members.

Job Qualifications

  • 3-5 years experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • E.I.T. Certification, Professional Engineer license, or ability to obtain such.
  • Experience with Connecticut, and / or local municipalities and agencies preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Skilled in traffic impact analyses.
  • Working knowledge of MUTCD, AASHTO, PROWAG, HCM, ITE Trip Generation.
  • Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, OpenRoads Designer, and / or MicroStation. CTDOT Digital Design Environment is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Synchro / SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM, and AutoTurn.
  • Familiarity with Traffic Signal Design. Connecticut DOT guidelines and standards are a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Compensation

    Compensation will range from $85k to $100k and commensurate with experience.
