Job Description
The Maintenance Planner supports the maintenance group through planning, scheduling, ensuring parts availability, developing job plans, and reviewing Preventative Maintenance (PM) processes. This role ensures safe, efficient management and upkeep of critical production and mining assets. The Maintenance Planner will spend approximately 90% of their time underground, including time with underground maintenance supervisors.
Role and Responsibilities
- Ensure safe practices, including daily on-shift inspections, training and orientation, coaching, accident investigations, and inspections with State and Federal regulators.
- Coordinate scheduling of contractors needed to support work.
- Maintain PM and inspection forms current for all mobile and stationary equipment.
- Update PMs with known errors and feedback from maintenance staff.
- Audit work to ensure it is performed to accepted standards.
- Maintain record-keeping systems for equipment specifications, maintenance history, and costs.
- Organize and plan to ensure work orders are processed (parts ordered, manpower scheduled, and work completed) with priority considerations.
- Communicate with maintenance and production supervisors to coordinate work, improve planning effectiveness, and identify solutions.
- Apply knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and company policies; resolve personnel issues and handle first-step grievances.
- Analyze repeat work orders for better repair methods.
- Ensure compliance with MSHA and ODNR regulations.
- Plan special maintenance projects (capital projects, rebuilds, and contract jobs) in a timely, cost-effective manner.
- Assist storeroom personnel in determining inventory and supplies; recommend cost improvements regarding parts usage and labor.
- Supervise on surface or underground as needed to fill in for maintenance supervisors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.Minimum 5 years of heavy equipment experience with a mechanical or electrical background; industrial plant experience preferred.Ability to read and understand parts books, technical maintenance manuals, hydraulic schematics, and blueprints.Knowledge of hydraulics, welding, rigging, diesel repair, electrical systems, and plumbing.Strong technical background with troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Experience in industrial manufacturing environments and maintenance of production systems.Demonstrated ability to cooperate with co-workers and supervisors.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Basic computer skills in Word and Excel; CMMS experience a plus.Underground mining experience preferred.Knowledge of mining law as it applies to maintenance.Must be able to work any shift and physically access all required work areas.Physical Requirements
Must be able to wear required PPE (steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, safety harness, electrical safety equipment).Ability to work safely in varying temperatures indoors and outdoors year-round.Must be capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling loads up to 50+ lbs.Must be able to climb, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, and reach as required to work on equipment.Vital Tech Solutions is an Equal Opportunity Affirmative Action employer.
