Central Sterilization Technician

Summary :

As a Central Sterilization Technician, you will play a vital role in processing routine and specialized medical and surgical supplies and instruments for patient care. This includes cleaning, high-level disinfecting, sterilizing, and packaging medical and surgical instrument trays.

Key Responsibilities :

• Assemble baskets of instruments, basin sets, and equipment using checklists for sterilization preparation.
• Ensure cleanliness and functionality of supplies and instruments used in clinical settings.
• Decontaminate, disinfect, and thoroughly clean supplies, instruments, and equipment utilized in various procedures.
• Distribute instruments, equipment, and supplies to their designated locations.
• Maintain adequate levels of supplies and equipment, monitoring for malfunctions.
• Perform minor repairs to equipment and inform appropriate staff about major repairs requirements.
• Demonstrate proficiency in reprocessing and maintaining endoscopes per high-level disinfection policies and manufacturer instructions, while maintaining effective documentation of actions taken.
• Follow manufacturer guidelines when handling equipment and demonstrate a thorough understanding of instrument processing.
• Adhere to PPE protocols as required, ensuring cleanliness and safety in all tasks.
• Keenly monitor and communicate equipment failures and necessary repairs, keeping accurate logs of all actions.

Additional Information :

Education Requirements : No specific education required if other qualifications are met.

Licensure / Certification Requirements : No licensure or certification is needed.

Professional Experience Requirements : No experience required for the role, but nine months as a sterile tech is necessary if located at UNC Medical Center or Rex Hospital. Graduation from a sterile processing school waives this requirement.
