Qualifications :
College hours (15) or high school diploma or GED (with a passing score of 464 on the ParaPro test)
Ability to work with children with disabilities
Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
Ability to communicate effectively
Knowledge of general office equipment
Accuracy in record keeping and form completion
Ability to keep information confidential
Paraprofessional Educational Aide II certificate required once employed
Valid CPI certification preferred (can be obtained after employment)
Primary Purpose :
Data tracking, instructional, and student care duties as assigned.
Major Duties and Responsibilities :
Adhere to federal, state and local policies and procedures related to special education.
Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
Assist in carrying out a behavioral program for students.
Assist in maintaining student records
Coach and model behavioral interventions for specific students in their least restrictive environment
Assist behavior team with extended modeling and coaching for students with behavioral challenges.
Assist in preparation for ARD meetings.
Assist in collecting and maintaining the student behavior data.
Obtain and maintain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
Support the Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) accepted by the ARD committee.
Provide instruction to students under the supervision of the Behavior Specialist
Provide behavior intervention strategies under the supervision of the Behavior Specialist.
Equipment Used :
Personal computer, copier, calculator, fax machine, laminator, Smart boards.
Working Conditions :
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; occasional running, heavy lifting and carrying, 45 pounds and over daily, positioning of students, moving classroom or adaptive equipment, noise exposure, biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; exposure to physical and verbal outbursts by students. May be required to utilize CPI strategies to manage disruptive students, including restraint.
