Warehouse Manager

Plastic Express operates from 18 warehouse locations and 37 rail terminals across the US. At many of the Plastic Express sites, we also handle some non-plastic commodities, which include; paper rolls, steel, building materials and other dry bulk materials. Plastic Express owns and operates roughly 190 trucks, with approximately 227 trailers performing full bulk truck distribution business. Plastic Express is headquartered in Houston, TX and has over 600 employees nationwide. Reporting to the VP of Warehousing and Packaging, this position is directly responsible for the management of the US and International company warehouse operations. This position helps the company achieve financial goals and objectives and increase operating performance. Helps prepare operating plans / budgets, creates business plans, and solves internal issues as they arise. Must provide positive leadership for company management team and HSE objectives within the Warehouse Division. Responsible for all departmental quality, safety and training initiatives, including reporting responsibility to Compliance Division for ensuring these objectives are achieved. Direct daily management of shipping / receiving activities, packaging operations, inventory maintenance, and production scheduling. The incumbent is also responsible for scheduling and coordinating maintenance, employee development, employee counseling and discipline, record keeping and communication with Executive Team.

Role works closely with Executive Team Members, Safety Director, Quality Manager, Customer Service Representatives (CSRs), trucking department and sales department. Must oversee all facility and operations to meet KPI targets and goals. Communicate and monitor divisional safety performance. Collaborate with Compliance Team to achieve operational safety objectives. Ensure Plastic Express Prime Rules are maintained. Assist in coordination of quarterly safety reviews. Ensures audit completion for all terminal sites. Ensure divisional compliance with all regulatory safety standards. Ensure fleet safety and maintenance of equipment is completed. Communicate all safety issues and incidents to the Executive Team. Assist with preparation of quarterly safety report. Ensure divisional compliance with company safety initiatives, programs, and procedures.

Ensure divisional quality compliance with company standards. Ensure quality compliance with customer standards. Communicate and monitor divisional quality performance. Collaborate with Compliance Team to achieve operational quality objectives. Ensure quarterly quality reviews and audits are complete for all Warehousing & Packaging Sites. Review and communicate all quality events greater than $2,000 to internal Executive Team. Communicate and report quality events to customers.

Collaborate with Compliance Team to achieve operational training objectives. Ensure site operations have qualified trainers to effectively train new hires and conduct site periodic, initial and retraining needs. Provide assistance to the Compliance Training Director regarding curriculum development to properly document procedural standards.

Analyze financial reports. Identify opportunities to maximize revenue and areas for cost reduction. Assist with preparation of monthly operating plans for all Trucking Terminal operations. Ensure sites adhere to MOP budgets and report deviations greater than 5% of target. Measure, and report monthly, MOP results to Executive Team and Trucking management staff. Prepare and report quarterly scorecards to Executive Team and management staff. Ensure cost control measures are implemented at all facilities.

Oversee Divisional Projects. Develop and maintain documented equipment and packaging supply specifications. Prepare and report to Executive team project cost and financial ROI analysis. Assist staff team members with plan execution of company initiatives, programs, and policies.

Attend customer sales meetings. Provide assistance to Sales Team to generate revenue plans and to prepare sales quote analysis. Assist the Sales team in preparing sales quote analysis. Proactively engage the Sales Team in cost deviations and analysis.

Direct Regional Warehouse Managers for the company. Communicate company strategy to executive and management team. Attend executive meetings. Ensure company policies and procedures are followed by the WH & Packaging Division. Attract, retain and motivate staff. Report and share information with the executive team to ensure they are kept fully informed on the condition of the organization and important factors influencing it. Identify and lead new business opportunities. Generate productive relationships and partnerships for the benefit of the organization. Set goals, monitor work, and evaluate results to ensure that departmental and organizational objectives and operating requirements are met and are in-line with the needs and mission of the organization. Work alongside industry leaders, executive directors, government officials, and senior staff / board members. Participate in and nurture broad networks of alliances with others to exchanges knowledge and information about learning and change in support of change initiative.

Lead company strategy on the Warehouse management team. Lead the training program of the Warehouse Division. Attend and execute management team meetings with direct reports. Attend customer meetings and audits. Work with Sales Team to generate revenue plans. Assist VP of warehousing to manage warehouse operations for the company. Identify ways to maximize net income for the Warehousing Division. Assist VP of Warehousing with budget and operating plan preparation. Analyze financial reports. Ensure company policies and procedures are followed by the Warehouse department. Attract, retain and motivate staff. Report and share information with the Executive Team to ensure transparency regarding organizational success and challenges. Oversee corporate purchasing initiatives to reduce cost, standardize products and service models, while maintaining or improving product and production reliability. Generate and monitor production reports to ensure warehouses are meeting KPI's. Set goals, monitors work, and evaluates results to ensure that departmental and organizational objectives and operating requirements are met and are in line with the needs and mission of the organization.

Minimum education required is a 4-year college business degree or work experience equivalent. Must possess 5-10 years previous Senior Management experience. Some advanced education or working toward a degree is preferred. Plastics warehousing and packaging background is preferred.

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The job requires long periods of standing while teaching a class. Must be able to perform physical labor such as, routinely lifting up to 55 lbs., moving up to 250 pounds, climbing ladders, operate control panels and working with hand tools. Employee must possess vision abilities required by this job function to include close visual confirmation of finely printed documents, have distance vision to safely and correctly identify objects and or markings. Must have peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus on subjects or objects at any safe working distance.

Must be Forklift Certified and maintain proper certification during the employment period.

Ability to organize broad groups to meet objectives and deadlines.

This position supervises : Warehouse Managers and Warehouse Operations Managers.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers / scanners. Also expected to operate in a warehouse environment.

This is a full-time position. Routine days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 : 30 a.m. to 5 p.m., but may include early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays, as required. 25%-50% Travel is expected for this position.
