Ability to perform a vaginal exam

Experience with scalp electrodes and circulating in C-sections

Knowledge of newborn transitions and assisting anesthesiology

Skill in IV starts and blood draws

Understanding of APGAR assignments

Experience in postpartum hemorrhage control

Ability to titrate drips for Magnesium, Pitocin, insulin, and blood

Description :

This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Labor and Delivery.

The unit has 9 beds dedicated to labor and delivery.

There are 2 operating room suites available for C-sections.

The average number of births per day is 9, resulting in approximately 250 births a month.

The department strives to follow recommended patient ratios of 1 : 1 or 1 : 2.

Candidates should be comfortable handling patients with hypertension and those with no prenatal care.

Spanish-speaking skills are beneficial due to a high percentage of Spanish-speaking patients.

Nurses will need to manage antepartum patients and care for newborns for two hours after delivery.

Knowledge of water birth is a plus, but not mandatory.

The unit has OB Techs available for support.

An OB / Neonatologist is on-site 24 / 7 for assistance.

Nurses will work with telemetry patients but are not required to read telemetry.

The shift runs from 6 : 45 PM to 7 : 15 AM.

Weekend requirements include 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule.

Nurses are typically expected to work 2 out of 3 holidays each contract period.

There is a low census on-call requirement.

Scrubs are provided by the facility.

A basic understanding of Epic charting is necessary.
