Position Summary
The Maintenance Lead Technician is responsible for performing daily maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of production equipment and facility systems while also providing leadership and guidance to a small team of maintenance technicians. This role is 70–80% tools-on and 20–30% leadership, ensuring equipment uptime, safe operations, and effective preventive maintenance within the manufacturing facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of production equipment (CNC machinery, lasers, welding equipment, fabrication tools, conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, and utilities)
- Lead by example on the shop floor—acting as the first responder for breakdowns and providing technical direction to the maintenance team
- Schedule, assign, and prioritize maintenance tasks to balance preventive maintenance with urgent repairs
- Support the development and execution of preventive and predictive maintenance programs
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and spare parts usage in the CMMS
- Assist with installations, equipment moves, and new line setup
- Collaborate with production and engineering to resolve equipment issues quickly and effectively
- Enforce safety protocols including lockout / tagout, PPE, and OSHA compliance
- Mentor and train junior technicians to improve troubleshooting and repair skills
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and support corrective action implementation for recurring failures
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred5+ years of hands-on industrial maintenance experienceAt least 1 year in a lead or team lead capacity (informal leadership acceptable)Manufacturing environment experience (CNC, laser cutting, robotics, or automated equipment preferred)Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systemsHands-on experience troubleshooting CNC machines, industrial lasers, motors, drives, and PLCs (preferred)Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manualsWelding, fabrication, and machining repair skills a plusProficient with CMMS and basic computer skillsLead by example with a strong work ethic and accountabilityStrong problem-solving under pressureEffective communicator across maintenance, production, and managementSafety-focused and detail-orientedPhysical & Work Environment Requirements
