Job Title

Performs skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair, modification, installation and construction of all the City's publicly owned properties including, but not limited to, buildings, and facilities located in parks, green spaces, rights-of-way, streets, medians, alleys, sidewalks, seawalls and beaches. Work is scheduled and managed in a work order management system and performed independently and as assigned by the Crew Chief through the Operations Manager.

Essential Job Functions :

  • Operation, maintenance, repair, modification, installation and construction of all the City's publicly owned properties.
  • Operates vehicles and equipment such a slight and heavy-duty trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, bucket truck and gator utility vehicle.
  • Operates and properly maintains all hand tools, power tools, field equipment and shop equipment.
  • Completes work orders in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Coordinates and works with others to complete overlapping tasks as needed and appropriate.
  • Maybe required to work outside normal work hours in emergency situations.
  • Maybe scheduled for on-call duty.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications, Licenses, Certifications :

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required.
  • Valid State of Florida Driver's License
  • Associate degree or technical school training in related field preferred.
  • Four (4) or more years of maintenance, repair and construction experience required.
  • Ability to obtain additional certifications and licensure depending on area of assignment and the needs of the City.
  • Ability to obtain a Class B commercial driver license (CDL) valid in the State of Florida.
  • Special Requirements :

    Emergency Response Status : As a condition of employment, City of St. Pete Beach employees may be required to work as directed during an undeclared and / or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Physical and Environmental Conditions :

  • The ability to troubleshoot and find solutions; and knowledge of City owned properties; thorough knowledge of maintenance, repair and construction methods; thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions; significant experience and the ability to train others in the use of hand tools, power tools, field equipment, shop equipment, and vehicles; ability to perform the essential job functions; ability to read construction plans and blueprints; ability to plan and supervise work of others as needed; ability to perform basic computer functions; knowledge of City codes related to public properties; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and / or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm's length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities, the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions and oils.
