General Merchandise Clerk

Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service. Rotates, faces, and replenishes merchandise. Reviews department status and store displays for cleanliness, product quality and quantity.

Accountable and reports to : District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Health Wellness Home, Store Operations, and Perishables; GM Department Manager.

Primary duties and responsibilities include providing prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, smiling and greeting customers, assisting customers, answering the telephone, working with co-workers as a team, understanding and practicing proper sanitation procedures, rotating, facing, and replenishing merchandise, anticipating product needs, reviewing department status, checking in product, running the department registers, assisting with inventory, maintaining displays, removing trash, maintaining strict adherence to department and company guidelines, adhering to company policies and individual store guidelines, and reporting to work when scheduled and on time.

Secondary duties and responsibilities include building displays, ordering product and supplies, pricing products, assisting in other areas of store, and performing other job related duties and special projects.

No education requirement. Over six months to a year of related work experience preferred.

Knowledge, skills, abilities and worker characteristics include excellent customer service skills, ability to solve practical problems, ability to do arithmetic calculations, ability to file, post, and mail materials, ability to copy data, ability to interview, and ability to guide people and provide basic direction.

Physical requirements include ability to perform medium work, visual requirements, and ability to perform various physical activities.

Working conditions include frequent exposure to dirt, occasional exposure to equipment movement hazard and chemicals / solvents, and a fast paced work environment with significant pressure.

Equipment used to perform job includes computer, video terminal, Visa credit card machine, BASS, compactor, power jacks, two-wheeler, and produce cart.

Has daily contact with customers and with the general public.
