Position Overview
We are looking for a senior leader to direct our Design-Build engineering operations, aligning departmental strategy with overall business objectives. This role is responsible for integrating design excellence, budget certainty, and operational efficiency across all project phases. Acting as the face of the design function, you will engage with clients, executives, and external partners to influence key decisions, foster relationships, and guide projects from early schematics through final construction documents.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and implement the strategic direction for the Design-Build engineering department.
- Lead and mentor design staff, setting performance goals and ensuring career development.
- Manage schematic design, design development estimates, and cost tracking from concept through completion.
- Confirm that value engineering measures and preconstruction agreements are carried forward into final deliverables.
- Oversee contract negotiations and ensure scope alignment with project budgets and trends.
- Represent the design team in executive-level meetings and participate in long-term business planning.
- Build strong client and stakeholder relationships to support ongoing business development.
- Provide oversight on design coordination, ensuring compliance with company standards, safety practices, and project objectives.
- Support project managers with technical expertise, drawings, and documentation during construction phases.
- Deliver executive-level reports on departmental performance, project costs, and market insights.
- Establish systems for continuous improvement, ensuring both efficiency and quality outcomes.
- Conduct staff evaluations and drive a culture of accountability, safety, and innovation.
- Stay current on industry trends and adapt strategies to meet evolving client and market needs.
Qualifications
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required.Minimum 8 years of experience overseeing large-scale engineering or design projects.Demonstrated expertise in mechanical, plumbing, and refrigeration systems.Strong leadership background with proven ability to set vision, mentor teams, and drive execution.Excellent strategic planning, analytical, and organizational skills.Advanced communication skills for interaction with executives, clients, and cross-functional teams.Ability to review and evaluate technical documents and project proposals with accuracy and insight.
