Machine Designer (Designer 5)
SSOE Group is hiring a seasoned Machine Designer to join our growing Glass / Glass Manufacturing team. The role requires strong AutoCAD / Inventor skills, expertise in machine and material handling equipment, and a drive for innovation.
Locations : Toledo, Columbus (Ohio), and Midland (Michigan).

Responsibilities
- Interpret, organize, execute and coordinate medium assignments with overall responsibility for budget adherence, quality control, and inter-discipline coordination.
- Make independent decisions on design problems, providing input for unusual or complex problems.
- Produce finished plans and specifications; final acceptance or rejection of major items involving materials, equipment, manufacturer’s quality and field construction results.
- Complete work on major engineering projects or total design work on projects of smaller or moderate scope.
- Serve as a job captain on single-discipline projects; may serve as a job captain on multi-discipline projects.
- Prepare or review construction budgets based on experience and scope of project.
- Write scope of work for design based on preliminary review and meetings with the customer.
- Perform project management functions as requested; assign and review work of project design team; check progress and alert project manager to changes of scope or additional services.
- Deviate new approaches and solutions to problems encountered and communicate them to the team.
- Represent the firm in meetings and conferences to resolve important questions and plan and coordinate a project.
- Prepare total design and construction cost estimates.
- Travel required.
- Valid driver’s license required (waiver for international assignments).
Qualifications
Associate degree or postsecondary training in engineering fields preferred.Minimum fifteen (15) years experience with SSOE as a Designer or nineteen (19) years experience with former employer(s).Prior experience in machine design, material handling equipment required.Exposure to and familiarity with automation and equipment design, ductwork systems, and fabrication weldments.AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor experience required.Experience with SolidWorks in lieu of Inventor will be considered.Demonstrated attention to detail.Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.Valid driver’s license required.Salary Range
$90,000 – $100,000 per year, depending on location, education, experience, and certifications directly related to the position.
