Hawkeye Community College is looking for a full-time Senior Companion Program Manager to manage the AmeriCorps Senior Program at our Adult Learning Center.

The AmeriCorps Seniors Program provides individuals with limited incomes the ability to remain physically and mentally active while providing friendship and assistance to other seniors who need extra help with daily living activities. Through providing transportation, making a meal, helping with light chores, or simply providing companionship, AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers help their clients to continue living independently while building lasting, meaningful relationships that are mutually beneficial.

Our position is responsible for managing the Senior Companion Program, which is sponsored by Hawkeye Community College, by establishing and maintaining the volunteer program in the community. This includes responsibilities such as supervising volunteers who provide companionship and support to older adults in the community and managing the program budget, which includes authorization and review of all program spending.

Essential Job Functions

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :

Plans and implements promotional activities to market program services and increase community awareness.

Prepares program reports as required by funding sources to evaluate progress, identify problems and maintain regular communication with funders.

Develops new volunteer stations in response to community needs.

Negotiates, reviews, and updates Memoranda of Understanding with Volunteer Stations to establish guidelines for volunteer placements.

Prepares and submits required reports to the State and Regional Corporation offices.

Gathers, maintains and is subject to audit of all financial and volunteer records required by federal program guides.

Establishes fundraising and development goals as well as identifies potential donors or sources of funding, and plans outreach strategies.

Recruits new volunteers, determines eligibility for service by conducting an application, interview, and background check process.

Provides orientation, training, monthly in-service, check-ins, and supervision of volunteers to ensure successful, safe, and productive volunteer assignments.

Conducts home visits with volunteers and prospective clients to match them appropriately for services.

Reviews and monitors volunteer services to ensure quality care is being provided and program goals are being met.

Prepares grant applications, annual budgets, and federal grant reports required by AmeriCorps Seniors.

Completes all forms and documents that are required for service provision and program compliance.

Collaborates with other departments and community organizations to improve services and impact.

Maintains communication with other AmeriCorps Seniors program directors as well as regional and national AmeriCorps Seniors staff.

Plans annual events for volunteers such as National Service Days and Recognition.

Participates in internal or external committees or advisory boards as assigned.

Reviews timesheets and approves stipend payments for volunteers.

Serves on the Adult Learning Center Leadership Team.

Supervises Senior Companion Van Driver(s) and program Administrative Assistant I.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Unless otherwise approved under Hawkeyes remote work policy, regular on campus and / or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work, Human Services, Gerontology or related fields and two years of relevant experience in program management or an Associates degree in a related field and four (4) years of related experience in program management.

Must possess supervisory experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of budget development and management.

Demonstrated knowledge of resources and services available to senior citizens.

Demonstrated ability to work with a wide array of students, faculty, staff, and the general public.

Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal communication.

Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, and video conferencing technology.

Demonstrated ability to execute organization and department policies and procedures.

Demonstrated ability to handle confidential / sensitive information with discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Social Work.

Experience in an AmeriCorps program.

Experience working with the senior citizen population.

Working Conditions

Anticipated schedule is typically Monday through Friday 8 : 00 am 4 : 30 pm

Work is performed either in or a combination of an office setting and / or classroom setting using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move frequently during working hours. During course of day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computers.

Employment Status

Grant funded, full-time, exempt position with comprehensive or competitive benefits program including health, dental, vision, life, and LTD insurance, a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expenses; holiday, personal, sick, and vacation leave; tuition reimbursement / tuition remission; and a choice of retirement programsIPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA (defined contribution).

Salary will be commensurate with the candidates education and experience.

The salary / wage range for this position begins at $50,735.

This is a specially funded grant position through 06 / 30 / 26 with potential for grant funding renewal annually.
