Our History

The Springbrook Autism Program grew out of three decades of experience in behavioral and mental health care. We founded the program after recognizing a need in our region for greater support and professional treatments and therapies for families struggling with the behaviors associated with autism.

About the Role :

As a Recreational Therapist at Springbrook Behavioral Health System, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals facing mental health challenges. Your primary objective will be to develop and implement therapeutic recreation programs that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being. By utilizing various recreational activities, you will help clients build coping skills, improve their self-esteem, and foster a sense of community. Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team will be essential to tailor interventions that meet the unique needs of each client. Ultimately, your work will contribute to the overall therapeutic environment, supporting clients in their journey towards recovery and improved mental health.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field.
  • Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or eligibility to obtain certification.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience working in a mental health setting or with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices in recreational therapy.
  • Responsibilities :

  • Assess clients' needs and interests to create personalized recreational therapy plans.
  • Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions using a variety of recreational activities.
  • Monitor and document clients' progress, adjusting therapy plans as necessary.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to client care.
  • Educate clients and their families about the benefits of recreational therapy and available resources.
  • Skills :

    The required skills of therapeutic recreation and mental health are essential in designing effective programs that cater to the diverse needs of clients. Your ability to communicate effectively will facilitate meaningful interactions with clients, helping them express their feelings and preferences. Patience and emotional stability are crucial as you navigate the challenges that may arise during therapy sessions. Skills in motivational interviewing will empower clients to engage actively in their recovery process. Additionally, your understanding of psychology will inform your approach, allowing you to create supportive environments that foster growth and healing.
