Nursing Director
Assists the Director in planning, directing, supervising, and evaluating nursing activities in the Center. Supervises and directs nursing care and all related activities in the Center according to approved policies and procedures. Supports philosophy, goals and objectives of the Center.
These job responsibilities may be assigned on a rotational basis to the staff nurses.
A. Management of Patient Care
1. Supervises nursing activities related to patient care and sets standards for accurate reporting and recording of patient's symptoms, reactions and progress.
2. Provides input and standards in formulating patient care policy and procedures for the Center. Works with the medical staff to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care.
3. Communicates with patient, family, and health professionals regarding care.
4. Participates in nursing quality assurance program.
5. Plans staff assignments to assure adequate coverage and the proper mix of staff.
6. Assesses any changes, delays, or cancellations in daily schedule. Communicates those changes to all appropriate staff members, physicians, patients and / or families when necessary.
7. In Pre & Post Op., is aware of scheduled times to avoid delays and provide maximum efficiency.
8. Coordinates lunches and coffee breaks.
B. Management of the Patient Care Unit
1. Promotes open communication within the Center to foster a positive, cohesive work environment. Plans and conducts Center staff meetings.
2. In conjunction with the Maintenance Technician, participates in and directs the practice of fire drills and disaster plans.
3. Assists in maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment.
C. Management of Nursing Personnel
1. Interprets Center policies and objectives. Provides leadership and direction in accordance with these policies and objectives.
2. Fosters professional growth and development of nursing staff.
3. Develops the staffing schedule. Adjusts schedule as necessary.
4. Prepares daily patient care assignments.
5. Collaborates with the Human Resources and the Facility Administrator / Director to counsel employees. Communicates interaction to the Director / Manager upon his / her return.
6. Participates in performance evaluations for assigned staff in collaboration with the Executive Director in recruiting and interviewing staff for the Center.
D. Leadership Responsibilities
1. Serves as a resource in areas of experience to other staff members.
2. Fosters effective public relations for the Center.
3. Attends management meetings at the request of the Director.
E. Educational Responsibilities
1. Assumes responsibility for own personal continuing education and developmental needs.
2. Plans or recommends educational programs for Center personnel.
3. Assists with the orientation of new personnel in collaboration with the Human Resources, Education department and the Director.
F. Demonstrates effective communication skills.
1. Reports to the Director when leaving and returning to work area.
2. Demonstrates tact, respect, and courtesy when dealing with other health team members.
3. Utilizes constructive means to avoid friction.
4. Promotes an atmosphere of mutual trust, acceptance and respect.
5. Uses good judgment in reporting serious or questionable matters.
G. Complies with safety and emergency procedures consistent with Center policy.
1. Demonstrates knowledge of the fire emergency procedure and disaster plan.
Completes fire safety review annually.
2. Reports unusual occurrences to the Director.
3. Responds to emergency situations appropriately.
4. Maintains a hazard free environment.
5. Utilizes proper techniques and body mechanics when performing lifting duties.
6. Initiates actions to protect the patient, self, and others from environmental hazards.
H. Complies with all Center policies.
1. Complies with personnel policies.
2. Complies with proper procedure for sickness, absenteeism, lateness, overtime, and special requests.
3. Complies with departmental dress code.
4. Demonstrates flexibility in working hours and days scheduled in order to meet unit needs.
I. Participates in unit cost containment measures.
1. Utilizes supplies safely and economically.
2. Utilizes work time productively.
J. Personal Conduct

K. Education

c. Completes monthly mandatory staff education.
L. May involve local travel to other campuses.
M. Performs other duties as deemed necessary.
Supervisory Responsibilities :
Directly supervise 15 or more employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Infection Control Category :
This Job is designated as a Category l job using the OSHA definitions. This means there are tasks that involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious material. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for any employee engaged in Category l tasks.
Language Skills :
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Computer Skills :
Ability to work with Microsoft applications (i.e. word, outlook), timeclock software, internet, and AdvantX.
Mathematical Skills :
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability :
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Education and / or Experience :
Education : Graduate from an Accredited School of Nursing.
Licensure / Certifications : RN with current state license.
Current CPR certification.
Current ACLS certification.
Current PALS certification.
