Position Overview
The Business Manager is responsible for capture and profitable performance of a product line within a business sector.
Responsibilities
Solutions Management
- Overseeing the technical solutions that meet customer needs within the business sector
- Overseeing various teams to define proposals and projects and ensure the successful delivery of the solution to the customer
- Focus on meeting the needs of customers and ensuring solutions align with their requirements
Corporate Management
Contributes to the day-to-day operations and long-range planning of the company coordinating with the Business Unit Vice President. Utilize assigned resources to profitably grow the product line revenues. and product offerings within the sector.Business Development
Co-ordinate with the Business Unit Vice President to prepare for executive approval an annual fiscal year business plan which identifies projects, programs, products, customers, revenues and margins on a month-by-month basis, along with revising the plan quarterly to reflect current circumstancesReport performance against the approved fiscal year business plan each month, explaining variances and presenting recovery plans for exceptionsMaintain close liaison with existing customers, so as to promote customer satisfaction and foster new business opportunitiesIdentify and develop new business opportunities and potential customers; devise strategies to capture identified opportunities; direct the preparation of solicited and unsolicited proposals. Verify cost estimates and justify same to executiveAnalyze lost business opportunities. Recommend corrective action to avoid future recurrenceBusiness Delivery
Direct and monitor project teams in the management of the product line, with particular emphasis on customer satisfaction, profitability, schedule and cash flowAdminister subcontracts with customer and suppliersAttend monthly executive project reviews for projects within the sector of the business unitEnsure that each project has adequate resources to accomplish the workResolve resource deficiencies in consultation with the Business Unit Vice President and with the functional department vice presidentsMonitor the performance of each project against its technical, cost, and schedule objectives. Ensure that recovery plans are established for identified performance shortfallsProvide guidance and supervision to project managers, including the in the preparation of schedules and budgets, internal, and external reportingMaintain close collaboration with project controls, finance teams, project managers, and senior leadership to ensure effective project managementLiaise with functional departments to ensure that technology development meets the requirements of solutions and products within the business unitInternal Controls
Internal controls must be in place to ensure the Company's financial information presented by the Corporation is complete, timely and accurate. Calian's management has the responsibility to ensure its systems and processes are designed to support the achievement of the Company's overall business objectives.You understand and follow Corporate Policies and Procedures, which relate to the system of internal controls. Specifically : Corporate Policies CO-009 Internal Controls, CO-013 Treatment of Concerns, and CO-002 Public DisclosureYou understand and follow all Financial Policies and Procedures for the divisionYou understand and follow Calian's Guide to Ethical Business PracticesYou communicate as required the above Policies and Procedures to your staffYou disclose to the Business Unit Vice President ALL NEW SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENTS in project status and projects in the pipelines IMMEDIATELY as they occurQualifications
EducationBachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field10+ years experience working in a technical project-centric environmentExperience and proficiency in writing technical documentsProven experience in people management, strategic planning, and risk managementVery proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project Demonstrate ( e.i. soft skills)A clear sense of urgency to achieve results.A "can-do", "let's make it happen" attitude and a focus on a positive customer experienceAbility to develop business acumen to be able to translate business needs into technology solutionsLeads continuous improvement while focusing on relationship building and service excellenceDemonstrated ability to develop and execute projects, including securing repeat business from satisfied customersFlexibility and calmness in dealing with managing multiple priorities simultaneously with a track record of creativity and innovation in problem solvingKnowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project managementMust be able to gather, prioritize and simplify complex information skillfully in terms for appropriate audienceAbility to think proactively, critically and independently to make good decisionsExcellent written and oral communication skills, with experience communicating effectively and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels within the organizationAdditional Requirements
