Maintenance Technician IV Construction Crew Lead
The City of Roanoke's Department of Public Works is seeking a Maintenance Technician IV Construction Crew Lead to serve in the Stormwater Division. This position supervises and participates in the work of a crew responsible for stormwater maintenance and new construction projects. The role includes direct supervision of approximately five field operations staff, as well as oversight of various division contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Assign, direct, and supervise the work of a diverse team of maintenance workers and technicians on stormwater projects.
- Order and track Miss Utility location tickets.
- Coordinate daily work schedules, track job progress, and inspect worksites.
- Enforce all safety standards, including work zone safety.
- Provide leadership that emphasizes problem solving, decision-making, and effective communicationfostering a culture of respect, teamwork, and successful project completion.
- Operate and supervise the use of various heavy and light construction equipment.
- Apply knowledge of construction site layout techniques; read and interpret construction drawings and sketches; and utilize a builder's level.
- Use computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite, QAlert, WinCan, ArcGIS, and VueWorks to support project planning and documentation.
- Coordinate with other departments and technical personnel as needed.
- Assist with City-wide snow removal efforts, special events, and other emergency tasks, including some nights and weekends.
- Complete additional assignments in support of division needs.
Preferred Experience
Experience with combination cleaning equipment (vacuum and jetting).Strong knowledge of stormwater systems and construction best practices.Qualifications
Current, valid Virginia Class A CDL license, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.Current VDOT flagging and work area protection certifications, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.Summary Supervises and participates in the work of a crew engaged in highly skilled maintenance, and construction activities. Performs work in multiple skilled trades.
