Performs a wide variety of tasks to support administrative, financial, budget, inspections and operations for the department, divisions, boards, commissions and special projects.

Full salary range for this position is $55,910 - $96,179

Responsibilities :

  • Prepare and maintain journals, subsidy account records for accounts receivable invoices, cash receipts, deposits, and escrow revenue payments;
  • Prepare accounting and procurement documents, vendor records, purchase orders, accounts payable invoices, and conference and convention travel training expense reimbursement forms;
  • Assist personnel in compiling and analyzing financial, statistical and operational data for specialized technical reports;
  • Assist with compiling monthly, quarterly, and annual operational financial data for escrow revenue account reconciliation reports;
  • Receive, maintain and reimburse Overlot Grading, Stormwater Management and Critical Area Planting agreement posted bonds;
  • May assist in preparation of budget submission;
  • Assist with reconciling financial records for year-end audit;
  • Generate data for preparation of trial balances, and general ledgers, and maintain various double entry records;
  • Serve as a resource person to citizens by answering questions and providing documents regarding rules and regulations for bond releases;
  • Assist with department historical scanning and archiving project
  • Answer phones and direct callers appropriately when Inspections Coordinator and / or Front Desk Office Specialist are absent or unavailable;
  • Performs weekly bank run for department deposits;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • Ability to operate relevant computer software and other office equipment;
  • Ability to gain thorough knowledge of St. Mary's County Government policies and procedures;
  • Ability to act as a representative of St. Mary's County Government to the public;
  • Knowledge of general governmental accounting and bookkeeping principles and procedures;
  • Accurately and efficiently prepare and maintain basic budgetary, fiscal and cost accounting records and reports;
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask; ability to follow through with assigned tasks;
  • Organize work and setting priorities to meet deadlines and working within time constraints;
  • Create and maintain complex financial spreadsheets in Excel;
  • Expert knowledge in compiling , computing, and presenting basic statistical information.
  • Requirements :

  • Associate's degree;
  • Three years or more of job-related experience, or
  • Equivalent technical training, education, and experience.
  • Physical and Environmental Conditions :

    Work requires no unusual demand for physical effort.

    Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meetings and training rooms.
