Title : Mechanical Engineer III
Duration : 6 months (potential to extend)
Location : 100% in Hickory, NC
Interview Process : Phone / teams screen, the onsite interview if the candidate is local. If the candidate is not local, 2nd interview will be virtual. Manager is willing to consider candidates willing to relocate to Hickory / Charlotte area at their own expense.

Education / Experience :
Bachelors in mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronic Engineering is strongly preferred. Manager is willing to consider candidates with more years experience who lack a Bachelors. 5 years minimum experience required.
Work Schedule :
Typically M-F, 8-5 : 00, Some weekends may be necessary to support project installations
Scope Of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group) :
The Mechanical Engineer will contribute to the development, design, and integration of advanced automation equipment and precision mechanical systems into manufacturing processes. This role involves the design, development, and delivery of precision automation solutions to meet stringent performance and reliability criteria. The candidate will leverage their expertise in precision mechanical design, motion systems, manufacturing assembly techniques, and system integration to drive innovation and continuous improvement, while ensuring safety and industry standards compliance. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders are essential for success in this role.
Day - To- Day Responsibilities :
Develop and design mechanical components, fixtures, and systems for precision automation equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards
Mechanical fixture and design for fiber optic assemblies.
Fiber optic cable assembly with connectors.
Operation and support of printing / assembly machines.
Design changes and electronics integration
Utilize CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD / Inventor) for detailed design work
Apply expertise in precision motion control and assembly techniques to develop high-accuracy automation solutions
Integrate actuators, sensors, and control systems into automation equipment.
Collaborate with team members on system integration
Conduct data analysis, troubleshoot, and optimize system performance to meet stringent precision and reliability requirements
Model systems using fundamental engineering principles, conduct simulations, and execute data analysis using various methods and software tools to validate designs and optimize performance
Prepare and maintain detailed project documentation, including design specifications, technical reports, and validation protocols
Required Skills (These are skills that candidates MUST possess)
Proficiency in automation / mechanical engineering fundamentals and principles
Equipment Work, and Auto CAD
Proficiency in CAD, analysis, and statistical software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoDesk Inventor, Matlab, Python, or R)
Experience designing and specifying mechanical components and automation solutions for manufacturing such as fixtures, material handling, etc.
Knowledge of precision motion control systems, including stepper motors, servo motors, and linear actuators. Experience with motion control algorithms and programming
High level of attention to detail, especially when working on precision applications
Willingness to stay updated with the latest advancements in automation technology and precision engineering
Understanding of precision assembly processes and techniques
Familiarity with tools and equipment used in precision assembly
Ability to integrate mechanical, electrical, and software components into a cohesive system
Experience with system-level troubleshooting and optimization
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
DESIRED SKILLS (These are skills that would be nice for candidates to possess)
Understanding of robotics, actuators, and sensors used in automation
Familiarity with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) design
Familiarity in using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) tools for simulation and analysis
Familiarity with PLC programming languages (Ladder Logic, Structured Text)
