Overview
Experience Qualification : Construction work experience with a basic understanding of construction methods. Experience inspecting similar construction activities, possibly in federal, municipal, transportation, ports, or marina projects.
Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site inspections to ensure quality and compliance with plans, contracts, and standards.
- Perform work of basic to moderate difficulty.
- Verify that construction meets contract specifications, plans, and permits.
- Perform materials testing and basic surveying.
- Communicate effectively with project stakeholders.
- Maintain detailed records, including daily diaries, photos, and reports.
- Assist in training lower-level inspectors.
- Ensure safety standards in work zones and traffic control setups.
- Utilize electronic project management software for documentation.
- Check materials and conduct roadway tests to verify compliance.
- Provide excellent customer service and handle administrative duties like timesheets and expense reports.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour certification required within 3 months of hire.Basic math skills, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.Construction-related training or experience in road / bridge construction or civil engineering.Knowledge of construction materials and methods.Preferred certifications include NCDOT-specific credentials.Experience levels vary from Level II (4+ years) to Level IV (7+ years), with responsibilities increasing accordingly.Skills and Abilities
Ability to carry out inspection assignments and document progress.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, internet, and construction management software.Ability to interpret plans and specifications.Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.Experience with surveying tools and techniques.Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and navigate construction sites safely.Valid driver's license and ability to travel.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Additional Information
Supervision is generally from engineers or project managers, with increasing independence as experience grows. Must pass background checks and have a valid driver's license and safety shoes.
