Scope of Job :
The Insurance Accounting Specialist is responsible for handling a variety of accounting tasks, including accounts payable / receivable, account reconciliations, deposit functions, processes insurance commissions, Insurance financial reporting and other assigned accounting functions. In addition, this position plays a key role in month-end journal entries to ensure accurate and timely payments, avoid duplicate payments, accounting and recordkeeping. This position is responsible for maintaining the accounting electronic data files of the Insurance Department.
Primary Duties :
Collaborate with the finance team to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
Processes financial data in an efficient and timely manner. Enter and process commissions in Insurance payable software, update customer billing.
Complete accurate and timely reconciliations of general ledger accounts and bank-owned checking accounts. Reconcile and process agency bill statements and direct bill payback statements. Print checks to Companies / Customers.
Responsible for daily funds management, which involves tracking the current balances of correspondent accounts.
Process Insurance auto deposits, sweep deposits and checking deposits. Balance batches, run deposits, Documentation of monies received in Insurance software.
Analyze data in Horizon for Insurance Checking accounts. Perform monthly reconciliations to the General Ledger.
Assist in the accounting functions including making proper general ledger entries and maintaining proper file documentation.
Run daily process, generate and print invoices.
Scan and distribute mail / email to unrouted attachments.
Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for job functions.
Secondary Duties :
Work as a team with departmental counterparts on planning and implementing assigned projects and products.
Participate on various committees and project teams as deemed appropriate by management.
Attend and actively participate in training offered.
Adhere to all applicable Policies and Procedures of the BankWest organization.
Community involvement is strongly encouraged.

Requirements
Education :
An Associate's degree in a related field.
Applicable experience and / or related certifications may be considered in lieu of degree.
Experience :
2 years' experience in related field.
Experience in accounting or finance.
Knowledge and Special Skills :
Ability to work dependently and / or independently, under pressure, meet deadlines, and adjust work schedules as needed to complete job responsibilities.
Ability to organize and handle multiple responsibilities while delivering quality external and / or internal Customer Service.
Strong interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with external and / or internal customers.
Knowledge or ability to learn regulatory requirements pertinent to performance of specified duties in job description.
Knowledge of Insurance Accounting terminology & procedures.
Knowledge of BankWest products and services.
Ability to skillfully use a variety of application software, learn computer programs, and comprehend the program output.
Adhere to Federal Privacy Standards in addition to following BankWest requirements for electronic communication and Social Engineering standards.
