Job Title : Recreation Facility Supervisor
This classification involves overseeing operations of an assigned multiuse recreation facility for the City including the Civic Center Athletic Club, Signature Sunrise, Village Multipurpose Center, Sunrise Athletic Complex, and Sunrise Tennis Club. An employee in this position supervises assigned facility operations and staff; directs daily activities; maintains equipment and inventory as needed; purchases supplies; provides planning and logistical / operational support for special events and meetings; inspects to ensure facility cleanliness, readiness, and maintenance; and prepares reports. This position also monitors budget; troubleshoots problems; and provides customer service.
Essential job functions include managing the day-to-day recreational use and / or rental of City-owned and operated facilities ensuring customers are given assistance with planning, coordinating, and implementing their events as needed. Ensures all programs and events run smoothly and efficiently to ensure patron satisfaction. Establishes professional relationships with the public, community leaders, partners and civic groups by having excellent people and organizational skills and the ability to communicate through presentations, meetings, and public speaking representing the City. Directs and coordinates the day-to-day work of assigned crews; prepares work schedules; assigns employees to work areas; answers questions; and assists employees during work in progress. Researches bands, entertainment, and vendors for special events and recurring programming; prepares contracts, agreements, and / or permits; reserves rental equipment; schedules event staff; and solicits donations.
Proactively assists patrons / renters with any questions or concerns they may have, such as : event requirements, estimated attendance, layouts, vendors, and audio equipment. Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phones; preparing correspondence; running errands; picking up supplies needed; leading recreation / camp activities / programs / events; making arrangements for rental and use of recreation facilities; reviewing incident / accident reports related to specific areas of responsibility; helping set up tables / chairs for classes, etc.; and responding to and resolving complaints from program participants / patrons / contractors. Understands and enforces policies and procedures. Demonstrates strong verbal and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patrons and employees. Completes daily inspections of the facility to identify and prioritize maintenance projects and work to be done. Submits requests for, and ensures completion of, preventative maintenance and work orders. Participates in the performance of maintenance projects, event / program set-up, and breakdown as necessary. Ensures cleanliness and readiness of facility and equipment. Secures and schedules necessary materials, supplies, and equipment for work. Maintains inventory of equipment necessary to perform job functions of the work group. Assists with development of annual budget and capital budget estimates. Assists with the recruitment and selection of staff and volunteers. Prepares and submits required invoices and reports to supervisor on facility usage as well as functions / events held at the facility. Provides excellent customer service to patrons. Responds to public inquiries about recreation programs, facilities, and events. Stays updated on best practices and trends within the industry. Troubleshoots supporting department software programs and databases. Works special events. Works nights and weekends. Writes and submits information for Horizons magazine; composes event calendar and flyers; ensures accurate and timely promotion of programs and events via available tools including Horizons, social media, printed banners, and City website. Performs related work as required.
Education : Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of G.E.D. equivalency diploma.
Experience : Reasonable supervisory experience involving the daily operations of a recreation facility, including experience with special events.
Necessary Special Qualifications : Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Must obtain a valid Florida driver's license prior to hire.
Physical Requirements : Moderate to heavy physical effort required, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and / or pulling of objects and materials up to fifty (50) pounds. The position requires the ability to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time. Incumbent must have the ability to effectively operate City vehicles and / or golf carts.
Work Environment : Work is performed in various environments including standard office, recreational facilities, and outdoors. Work hours may vary as needed and may include evenings, weekends and holidays. Tasks are regularly performed with moderate exposure to adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather, severe temperatures and exposure to water. The position may require travel to various locations in the City of Sunrise area.
Sensory : The ability to perceive and differentiate visual cues or signals. Tasks require the ability to communicate orally and in writing. Requires ability to adapt to frequent changes in workload and to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate while completing tasks within established time frames. It also requires interaction with employees and officials from all City departments / divisions, vendors and the general public.
