Shape precision parts on second shift in Palatine, IL

Join our team as an experienced CNC professional focused on setting up and running machining centers in a high-output environment. This is a long-term contract role with the possibility of converting to direct hire.

A shift in your life : what it looks like

At 4 : 30 PM, you review the evening's build plan and study part prints for critical dimensions and features. You prep a Mazak or Okuma mill / lathe, confirming tools, offsets, and workholding. After a careful first-article check with micrometers and calipers, you kick off production, staying attentive to tool wear, surface finish, and cycle times. You deburr and clean components, keep the cell tidy, and collaborate with teammates to hit quality and rate goals. Throughout, you follow safety procedures and handle parts ranging from 1–25 lbs (with occasional lifts up to 50 lbs.).

Core responsibilities

  • Set up and run CNC machining centers; experience with Mazak and Okuma is strongly preferred (Haas experience may be considered).
  • Interpret engineering drawings; a blueprint assessment is part of the interview process.
  • Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, and other precision metrology tools to verify critical dimensions.
  • Deburr and clean finished parts using hand and power tools.
  • Meet established quality standards and production rate targets.
  • Adhere to operational and safety procedures in a fast-moving, team-based setting.

What you bring

  • Strong blueprint reading ability.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of shop math and standard machining practices.
  • Stamina to stand for most of the shift and regularly lift up to 25 lbs. (occasionally up to 50 lbs.).
  • Availability for second shift : 4 : 30 PM – 1 : 30 AM, Monday–Friday , with possible Saturday overtime.
  • Preferred qualifications

  • 6–8 years of CNC machining experience demonstrating advanced skill.
  • Hands-on setup experience in addition to machine operation.
  • Familiarity with Mazak and / or Okuma controls; Haas exposure is a plus.
