Aggregate Mechanic
Reports to : Aggregate Operations Manager
FLSA Status : Non-exempt

Job Summary :
This position is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of equipment and machinery used in the Aggregate Division, such as front-end loaders, excavators, and other heavy equipment. This person will diagnose, service, and repair various systems found on pieces of heavy equipment, such as mechanical and computer controls, braking systems, and transmissions. This person will fabricate, modify, and install special equipment or replacement parts as necessary. Specific tasks will vary depending on the site and equipment being worked on.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Travel to aggregate sites to diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles and equipment
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues and perform the necessary repairs or replacements on faulty components
- Perform scheduled maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid level checks
- Diagnose problems, disassemble units, repair or replace parts, and reassemble units in brake systems, electrical systems, steering and suspension systems, etc.
- Fabricate, modify, and install equipment and replacement parts
- Document and maintain records of all maintenance repair tasks performed
- Communicate with Mine Managers to explain repairs and maintenance
- Test equipment after repairs have been made
- Prepare work orders and cost material estimates
- Keep tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized, and in good working order
- Stay up to date with advancements in repair techniques
Skills / Abilities :
Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skillsProficient in using diagnostic tools and equipmentKnowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and heavy equipmentKnowledge of safety issues in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in the repair of vehicles and heavy equipmentHigh level of comfort with ready manuals and schematicsWorking knowledge of internal combustion engines and drive train componentsSkilled in the use of welding equipmentEducation and Experience :
Required : High school diploma or equivalentRequired : Valid Commercial Driver’s LicensePreferred : Certificate or degree in automotive or diesel technologyPreferred : 5 years of mechanical maintenance and servicing of heavy equipmentPhysical and / or Travel Requirements :
Ability to travel regionally to aggregate sitesAbility to lift up to 75 pounds at a timeAbility to work in a variety of environments, including variable temperature and weather conditions, confined work spaces, and heightsBenefits :
