Description : POSITION OVERVIEW
The Fleet and Yard Manager is responsible for planning, managing and maintaining all company vehicles, landscaping equipment, tools, and yard inventory. This role ensures optimal equipment performance, accurate inventory tracking, and efficient yard operations to support our field crews and business objectives
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Fleet Management
- Maintain and manage company vehicle fleet, including trucks, trailers, and specialty vehicles
- Schedule and coordinate preventive maintenance, VSI inspections, and repairs with approved vendors
- Strengthen and build relationships with mechanics, service providers, and vendors
- Maintain all vehicles to meet safety standards and regulatory requirements;
- Coordinate and verify fleet washes are scheduled / performed on bi-weekly basis
- Ensure all vehicles, trailers, and equipment are labeled with proper signage
- Prepare all new assets for service following checklist\
- Prepare / dispose of retired assets
- Ensure Aspire equipment module is always up to date with assets
Equipment Management
Oversee maintenance and repair of all landscaping equipmentPerform basic equipment maintenance on small equipment : pull cords, PM 2-stroke equipment, troubleshoot problems and provide additional information for mechanicOrder parts needed to repair equipmentCoordinate with mechanic to ensure maintenance and repairs of machines and equipment not performed in houseImplement equipment checkout and return systems for field crews utilizing Aspire equipment moduleTrack equipment condition, usage, and service historyCoordinate equipment purchases and replacements as neededEnsure proper storage and winterization of seasonal equipmentWork with group leaders to coordinate procurement of rental equipmentInventory Control
Manage yard inventory including materials, supplies, parts, and consumablesMaintain inventory tracking within Aspire softwareConduct regular inventory audits and cycle countsMonitor stock levels and establish reorder pointsCoordinate with group leaders to maintain optimal inventory levelsReduce waste and minimize inventory shrinkageYard Operations
Organize and maintain clean, safe, and efficient yard layoutOversee daily equipment preparation and crew dispatch operationsEnsure proper storage of materials and equipmentImplement safety protocols and conduct safety inspectionsMaintain security of yard facilities and assetsOversee plant deliveries, plant inventories, and plant health care on plant pad including sorting, watering, healing in trees, and organizing for crews to loadEnsure hardscape material is clearly labeled for jobs or inventoryCoordinate returns on unused materialsPerform / coordinate basic building maintenance for all SLG buildings on siteAdministrative Duties
Maintain accurate records and documentation for all assets utilizing equipment module in AspirePrepare and audit reports on fleet costs, equipment utilization, and inventory levels to maximize equipment utilizationManage budgets for fleet maintenance, repairs, and inventoryProcess maintenance requestsCoordinate with Group Leaders on equipment needs and schedulingRequirements :
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Required :
Three to five years’ experience of the management of fleet, equipment, and / or inventory managementStrong mechanical aptitude and understanding of landscaping equipment and vehiclesStrong organizational and time management skillsAbility to lift 75+ pounds regularly and work primarily in outdoor conditions.Willingness to learn and perform landscaping practices including lighting, irrigation, landscaping, water features, hardscaping, and maintenance as well as snow removalCandidate must be proficient in the use of computers and have a working knowledge ofMicrosoft Office Products including Word and Excel.
Strong oral and written communication skillsCandidate must be able to read and write legibly.Candidate must have analytical and problem-solving capabilities.Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record with ability to drive truck and trailer combinationsWorks as a team member throughout Southern Landscape Group with a positive attitudePreferred :
Knowledge of DOT regulations and fleet complianceExperience operating equipment on regular basis (ex. Wheel loader, skid steer, etc. )Experience with fleet management softwareSupervisory or team leadership experienceCERTIFICATIONS
This position requires that the individual to have the following certifications :
First / Aid and CPRClass A CDL (within the first year)WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is primarily based at our yard facility with work conducted both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. The role requires physical activity including walking, standing, bending, and lifting. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 6 : 30 AM – 5 : 00 PM with weekend availability required during peak season.
