Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery Specialist
The role of a registered nurse in a labor and delivery setting requires independence, awareness of all relevant aspects, and the ability to make informed decisions.
Meeting expectations of applicable competencies : leader of self, leader of others, or leader of leaders.
Providing nursing care utilizing the nursing process : assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
Addressing increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
Administering medications and treatments; monitoring for side-effects and effectiveness of prescribed treatment.
Documenting patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given.
Assessing learning needs and providing education to patients, family members, and / or caregivers; identifying issues and resources.
Required Skills and Qualifications :
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN), preferred.
1 year of experience in the related nursing specialty, preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications :
BLS required.
RN License in state of employment or compact.
Position Requirements :
New hires must attend New Nurses Orientation within 30 days of hire.
Initial on-boarding requirements validated through successful completion of designated organizational entry competency validation and perinatal services-specific competency validation.
Completion of annual competency verification requirements.
