Position Summary and Job Duties
Supervise inmates confined to the County Jail or in the Jail Diversion Programs. This is responsible para-professional work in maintaining order and supervising inmates incarcerated at the Rock County Jail. This is a civilian classification and employees in this classification are not sworn and do not have arrest powers or any other powers delegated to law enforcement officials of Rock County. Work is performed in accordance with prescribed regulations. 40% - Maintaining Order and Supervising Inmates
- Interview and record information from inmate interviews
- Supervise Huber inmates and Jail Diversion Program inmates
- Answer and handle all calls from employers, family, public, probation officers, social workers, and other jail personnel
- Verify employment and appointments of Huber inmates, process appropriate paperwork, review rules with inmates and assist inmate's job search procedures
- Answers inmate questions and reply to written correspondence
- Make wristbands for new inmates
- Maintain security in the jail
40% - Maintaining Inmates
Conduct classification reviews of inmates, maintain files on classification paperwork and compile and maintain statisticsConduct daily count of inmate workers for monthly reportsCompile inmate behavior records and maintain jail activity logsMaintain discipline in a correctional settingProcess mailDeliver food carts15% - Miscellaneous

Associates Degree. ORMinimum of Two years Military Service. ORMinimum of Two years full-time work experience with high school diploma.Must be 18 years of age or older.Valid driver's license with good driving record.No felony convictions.Applicants must successfully complete a written exam, oral examination, extensive police background investigation, medical exam which includes a cardiovascular fitness test, psychological evaluation and drug screen.Visual acuity correctable to 20 / 20 with glasses or contact lenses.Maintain prompt and regular attendance.Certifications Provided by the Employer
TIME I and TIME II certification for classification or Jail Diversion assignment.Must be certified as a Correctional Officer by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Training and Standards Board.Attend 24 hours of in-service training to maintain certification.Essential Job Functions (physical elements, equipment and working conditions)
Physical elements :
Ability to lift push / pull objects weighing up to 165 pounds infrequently.Ability to maintain control of aggressive inmates and use all use of force options.Ability to walk a distance of an equivalent of one mile or more on a daily basis.Ability to sit and / or stand for lengthy periods of time.Ability to utilize sense of smell for detecting smoke or odorous chemicals.Ability to hear, in order to respond to inmate needs.Equipment Use :
Ability to use computer and computer keyboard.Ability to use Taser as trained.Working Conditions :
Inside work in a secure jail facility with limited exposure to outside elements.Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, contagious diseases, noxious fumes, and combative inmates.
