Day shift 6a-6p

The Packaging Group has three functions that the person may need to perform, and the functions may switch up throughout the shift.

Packaging Utility : This person will be doing product testing, ensuring all packaging materials are stocked and functioning as needed. This person must properly fill out all PR documentation at all stations. They must know how to properly perform metal detector tests and are required to know how to operate and maintain the two other rotating positions.

Sorter : This person is hand-sorting out foreign objects and white / rotten fruit. They will always need to pay attention and monitor the product visually for long periods of time. The sorter will remove items and alert the lead or management of any increase in sorting needed or concerns.

Stacker : The stacker will verify the fruit is bagged and boxed appropriately, sealed, and will then stack them on pallets. They will also verify that the inkjet and label sticker are correct.

All Packaging Production Associates will monitor the following pieces to ensure they are functioning correctly : the Case former, Bagger, Fruit Dumper, Scale / Weight-Rite verification, Case Closer, Metal Detector, De-Clumper, and Skid Wrapper. They will communicate with the shift lead if there are any issues or concerns with the equipment or product.

Compensation : $18 - $22 hourly

Responsibilities :

  • The Utility Associate will complete daily signoff on PR documentation, ensuring all quality standards have been met to assure food safety and documented to include : weight checks, pallet tag documentation, metal detector log, and hand sorting Log.
  • Utility Associate must perform a 1 / 2-hour metal detector test, document the test, and report any non-passing test to the shift supervisor.
  • Ensure proper operation of the Weigh Rite scale and De-Clumper, as well as the oil tumbler during production.
  • Maintain a clean work area, keep food contact utensils and floor / waste utensils separate while in use and when storing.
  • Restocking raw materials (bags, tape, gloves, armguards).
  • Properly separate the following : finished pallet cases, bulk tote, food-grade tote, and floor waste tote.
  • Forklift operation to pull out finished skids, wrap the top, then store them on the warehouse floor.
  • Use a laptop to load labels to the labeler. changing the ink ribbon and labels on the labeler.
  • Setting up the inkjet as required.
  • Perform effective cleaning and sanitation on all equipment, floor, and belts during run time.
  • Troubleshot and maintained equipment to run efficiently.
  • Always maintain the department in audit audit-ready condition.

Qualifications :

  • High school education.
  • Good mathematical skills and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to accomplish tasks under deadline pressure.
  • Must be assertive.
  • Able to maintain outstanding work attendance.

Therefore, they must learn, understand, and follow all guidelines set by American Berry that involve their role or their ability to access / travel through areas within the facility. This includes but is not limited to, wearing appropriate PPE where required, following all cleanliness criteria, adhering to safety practices, and reporting anything concerning to management.
  • This position may need to lift, push, pull product during the shift for product inspection, generally 25-30 pounds.
