Purpose of Position
To provide customer service to the university community by ensuring a clean, sanitary, and inviting environment. Supervises and performs custodial and floor care services on the afternoon / night shift. Is responsible for making decisions, planning, assigning work, and ensuring compliance with department and University policies.
This hands-on, working position requires that a minimum of 75% of the shift be spent monitoring or assisting subordinates with their responsibilities, including the actual performance of custodial duties as required. Monitors and participates in the scheduling of floor care activities as per their daily duties and assists if needed.
Primary Responsibilities
Along with other members of the building services supervisory team, provides customer services by responding to service / maintenance calls, and by training, prioritizing, scheduling, discussing and assigning, and / or completing routine custodial services. Establishes programs for cleaning and servicing facilities, ensuring routine coverage of all cleanable spaces. Supervises and performs work of an unpleasant and potentially harmful nature involving the cleaning of classrooms, cleaning of spills, and cleaning up body fluids.
Ensures that subordinates have the proper equipment, supplies, and materials required to complete daily work assignments. Monitors the quality and quantity of employee performance daily. Ensures that subordinates keep work sites clean and orderly
Strongly promotes safety awareness. Monitors and ensures that safety gear is worn and ensures proper procedures and precautions are followed to allow for the safety of personnel, equipment, and University property. Reports observed safety concerns or other problems needing the attention of other operations and maintenance crews.
Implements and assures compliance with policies and procedures established by the University and the department. Effectively and courteously communicates with NKU students, staff, and faculty.
Informs the superintendent of current and potential concerns related to employee work performance and personnel matters. Provides the superintendent with detailed documentation concerning work accomplished, employee attendance, items of special interest, product, and equipment efficiency.
Participates in pre-employment interviews and the hiring process. Oversees the training of new employees. Monitors employee attendance and punctuality. Administers mid-probation, end of probation, annual, and other performance evaluation processes. Participates in the University's progressive disciplinary program.
Assist all assistant supervisors when filling in for absent employees.
Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years previous related management experience required.
Experience responding to service / maintenance calls, training, prioritizing, scheduling, discussing and assigning custodial services.
